Post by Semenov » 02 Apr 2009 15:23

Hello!
Who is it? He served with Zeppelin Hauptkommando "Russland-Süd"?

Best wishes from Russia.

I have three possible SS-Untersturmführer with RSHA VI C/Z operations working out of the Crimea, stationed at Eupatoria/Jewpatoria throughout 1942:

SS-Ustuf Werner Girgensohn (SS-Ostuf 9.11.1943)
SS-Ustuf Prössdorf
SS-Ustuf Korris

Which of the three is shown in the photos I have no idea.

Well, steve248, thanks for reply.
This ustuf. wears a Krim schield. In McLean book only officier with Krim schield was - ustuf. Schroer Wilhlem.

Do you have any idea about this badge?

Since you mentioned Unternehmen Zeppelin I gave you details of that organisation operating in the Crimea.

SS-Ustuf (SS-Ostuf from 9 Nov 1942) Dr Wilhelm Schroer was assigned to the staff of Einsatzgruppe D. His job was "Truppenbetreuung" and carried out propaganda work on behalf of Abteilung Ost/Propaganda Ministry. He
arrived in Simferopol in May 1942.

The photo in his SS-Officer file does show a spectacled man in civilian clothes. Although my photocopy is quite
dark (and small) and the spectacles he wears are different, his left ear looks similar. I am no expert on photos
and unable to say whether it is is Schroer or not.

What is the provenance of the photo?

Now there is a perception that the officer later served in stab Armenian Battalion 809 and a cross on the pocket - Hungarian.

This is the best I can do with a photo of Schroer from a photocopy from his SS-Officer File (Berlin Document Center). Schroer ended the war with the Wlassow Army in Prague as a propagandanist, May 1945.

One needs to be careful with Girgensohns as there were two of them: Theodor and Werner. The documentation does not mention whether they were brothers, but I think it highly likely. Both served as SD-LA Posen and Theodor was SS-Hstuf earlier. Theodor did not (as far as I know) participate in Unternehmen Zeppelin.
