Amazing photos. What I always found unbelievable is the fact that Sipo SD members could count on a very few members (the normal Außenstellen seats seized 20 - max 25 men), nevertheless they had the power to carry on extreme duties like the mass executions of thousands of innocent civilians and the deportation of tens of thousands of others in a so sharp manner. It's simply horrific to imagine such a few dozens of men could kill by themselves entire Jewish communities with their own weapons and simply helped by some local policemen.

Some more on Alwang:
27 Sept. 1943, SS-Hstuf. Friedrich Kallbach returned from Osteinsatz with EG C to SD-LA Kattowitz and shortly afterwards “kdt” to SD-LA Nürnberg for appointment as Leiter, SD-HAst Würzburg. The then Leiter SD-HASt Würzburg, SS-Ostuf. Wilhelm Alwang was then posted by RSHA I A5 to Osteinsatz with EG C as replacement for Kallbach.
