Can anyone confirm that he was demoted to Hauptsturmführer and KIA April 28, 1945 serving with the Dirlewanger unit?

Niepołomice? I have a doubt. How it is possible? Soviet liberating Cracow in january 1945. Scherner KIA in April (in this time Reda Army was in Saxony). What he did that?

Hello,

Scherner's place of death as you find it in Wikipedia and lots of other sources must be wrong. Actually he died in the Halbe pocket SE of Berlin.

Hard to tell where the false information regarding Niepolomice comes from. There's a hamlet Heidesee between Märkisch Buchholz and Halbe. Perhaps someone confused this with Heidenau. Heidenau is the German place name of Niepolomice.

HIs birthplace Bagamoyo quoted above in the Volksbund entry, is given in his SSO as Bagamonoyo, German East Africa.

4 from the right is Max Koegel, later famous for being Kdt. KL Flossenburg, and maybe the 1 from the right can be Ernst Deutsch Kdr. of SS-Btl. Nürnberg which was stationed at SS-Standortkdt. Dachau.
