ID of SS-Standartenführer

Post by stoveb » 28 Feb 2011 01:24

Hi there,

This image comes from a thread on Wehrmacht Awards Forum, and the owner is trying to ID the man. In the photo there is also a woman with what appears to be a Italian looking facist badge pinned to her lapel.

Thanks for any help;

Cheers
Steve

He looks like Gottfried Klingemann, commander of SS-IR "Nordland" in 1940.

Sorry, but I tend to disagree. I don't think it's Klingemann. :? The noses and mouths are different.

I too am a little hesitant to ID as Gottfried Klingemann.
Klingemann was more 'jowly' in all of the period photos I have of him.

Here is a photo showing Klingemann which was posted a few months ago in the Feldgrau Forum. Standing on the left is Polewacz and, on the right, Fortenbacher.

It must be noted that the latter photo shows Klingemann in 1940 when SS-Rgt. "Nordland" was activated while the previous one, showing him with the rank of SS-Brigadeführer, was obviously taken much later.

What uniform is Klingemann wearing? Modified Waffenrock?

It looks like a litewka tunic with buttons- almost Imperial Army-style... but I'm no expert. Very odd, this pocketless tunic.

I still don't think it's Klingemann.
Please consider Michel Lippert as a possibility.

I agree. It looks more like Lippert than Klingemann.

Well, I must admit that Michael Lippert did not come to my mind but I have to agree : this SS-Standartenführer is probably Lippert.
