Seeking information in addition to the following on subject SS/Polizei General.

In particular, need the following:

2) Termination date for his post as Inspekteur der Ordnungspolizei in Reichenberg (Böhmen und Mähren).

3) Precise date of promotion (in 1919) to Hauptmann in Royal Bavarian Army.

4) The class of Bavarian Military Service Order he received in World War I (IV.Klasse?).

Thanks in advance for any and all assistance.

Best wishes,

Mike,

As an Oberleutnant/Hauptmann, he received the Bavarian Military Merit Order, 4th Class with Swords and Crown. Higher grades of the order went to officers with much more rank than him! Still, with the Crown embellishment (a higher grade within the 4th Class) that wasn't too bad! Usually a holder of this order in the 4th Class with Swords and Crown had previously received the 4th Class with Swords only.

An example is GFM Ferdinand Schörner who received the 4th Class with Swords on 11 October 1915 and then the 4th Class with Swords and Crown on 24 October 1917. Also, General der Gebirgstruppe Georg Ritter von Hengl was in the same boat regarding this order (see his profile I posted on Feldgrau.com).

All classes of this order held by a recipient could be worn simultaneously (like the Iron Cross). In general practice, you mainly see the officer in question wearing only the single ribbon of the order with the Swords and Crown device vice two identical ribbons, one with Swords the other Swords and Crown.

Regards,
Shawn

Dear Michael

I have read your datas about the SS-Gruppenführer Höring. Now i have some questions:

20.4.1939: he entered in the SS. I think directly as an SS-Standartenführer, but you indicate that he was also SS-Mann. What is correct ??

9.11.1941: He had the promotion to an SS-Oberführer and at the same day the promotion to an SS-Brigadeführer. Is this correct ?

Do you have any information about his postwar activities ??
Thanks for an short answer.

Dear Thomas~

Thank you very much for noticing a glaring error- Höring was promoted SS-Oberführer on 20. April 1940 (i.e.- the same date he was promoted Generalmajor der Polizei) and to SS-Brigadeführer on 9. November 1941.

He did enter the SS as SS-Mann and received SS-Standartenführer rank the same date (20. April 1939). I don't know if this was customary in all cases, but I saw numerous references to acceptance into SS at the lowest rank followed by same day conferral of officer rank.

Best wishes,

hi

I am interested Höring's activities whilst he was in post Jun. 1943 - Mar. 1944. as Befehlshaber der Ordnungspolizei (BdO) Krakau (Generalgouvernement). Does anyone have any information about Höring during this period? In particular which anti-partisan actions did he oversee and even better whereabouts was he based during this period?

Mike,

He was BdO Krakau 23.3.1944 - 19.1.1945 . Antonio Munoz list 10 actions anti-partisans . 3 only with Polizei regiments (Immergrün april 44, Vagabon june 44, Wirbelsturm july 44) but no mention of direct leadership. There is no mention of prosecution against him after the war.
Best regards

Mike

I realize your original post is quite old, but...
Postwar Höring was in British hands and on 16 June 1947 held at Civilian Internment Camp No. 7 (Eselheide) the subject of a Polish extradition request.

I do not know whether he was extradited.
