Ernst Torgler

It's known that Ernst Torgler, who had been leader of the Communist fraction in the Reichstag, subsequently served in Heydrich's staff as an SS officer under a false name. Does anyone know what his new name and SS No. was and how he ended his life?

Hi,

For now I found that Ernst Torgler died on the 19th of January 1963 in Hannover, after a retiring live in Bückleburg from 1950.
I continue searching for his false name and if I get some updates I will post them here.

I know about Torgler's subversive operations against the French in 1939 and 1940 but I have not heard of his later activities in the SS. I'd be grateful for any information on this. By the way, I understand that he applied to rejoin the Communist Party in West Germany after the war but was rejected, after which he joined the Social-Democrats.

Maybe there is some extra information that's useful to you, but also there is not spoken about any actions within the SS. Where did you hear that he joined the SS under a false identity?

Gisevius tells so in his memoirs. Btw the link you kindly provided also states that Torgler served at Heydrich's staff.
