Post by moosehoose » 18 May 2011 06:49

Erkennungsmarke: -73-6. Pol. 12 (=6. Kompanie SS-Polizei-Regiment 12)
Identification tag: -73-6. Pol. 12 (= 6 Company SS Police Regiment 12)

Zugwachtmeister der Schutzpolizei der Reserve (Das Beförderungsdatum ist nicht verzeichnet)
Zugwachtmeister the police the reserve

I have been doing some research and am interested to learn more about SS-Polizei-Regiment 12 as my grandfather was a member.

Anything would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Erin

Thanks so much for that Phil.
I was talking to my mum today adn she told me she has just purchased your book for me!
My grandfather was killed on the Hungarian border in Nov 1944 and is buried in Budaors.

I enquired in Germany for further information on his records but they have nothing :o(
We are going to Germany & Hungary next year so am looking forward to visiting some places of interest.

Thanks again,
Erin

Here is some other info:

Commanding Officer(s): Major Paul Gustav Giebe, Major Julius Gloe
The battalion formed the II/Police Regiment 12 in July 1942 in Hamburg. In August 1944 the battalion became the I/SS Police Regiment 1 or it was operating under the operational command of that regiment. 1

Einsatzgruppe/Atrocity Activity
Summer 1940: In Zamosc, Poland. The battalion was stationed in Lublin in January 1940, and later it was transferred to Zamosc were it was involved in executions of Polish civilians and POW’s. 2 Zamosc at this time was the center for the mass expulsions of Poles to make room for German and Volksdeutche settlers. The expelled Poles were then conscripted for forced labor either in Poland or in Germany.

Regiment/Battalion Location and Activities

1943: In Italy.
April 1944: Transferred to Hungary.

Although this is now a relatively old thread also looking for information on SS Polizei Regiment 12, as my grandfather also served with the unit and was killed in Romania 1st Oct 1944. I have managed to identify that he is still buried in Romania and have letters regarding his death from various parties

Some of the documents mention 'Vaideiul (Rumanien)' and 'scweren defense Kampfen Transylvania'

On the unit is has 7/ 1 Pol.Regt 12 so not sure if this will assist in identifying any further information on battle / how he died

Would be grateful for any additional info anyone can provide

I have ordered the Phil Nix book to see if that can provide any additional info

I'm looking for the birthplace of SS-Stubaf. and Major der Schutzpolizei Paul Gustav Giebe (born 1892).

According to the informations from the other thread he was tried in Poland and sentenced at Kraków to 6 years imprisonment.
