Julius Schreck
I would really like to know more about Julius Schreck. All I know is that he was Reichsführer-SS from 1925-1926 and wore Standartenführer collar tabs.
I would like to know:
When was he born and when did he die?
Why was he Reichsführer for less than a year?
What besame of his SS career?
What's up with the Standartenführer collar tabs?
Was he prosecuted after the was?
Post war life?
Other helpful info.
Pictures.
Thanks,
Em.

SS-Brigadeführer Julius Schreck
Born: 13/07/1898.
Died: 16/05/1936.
Party Number: 53
SS Number: 5.
Awards: Golden Party Badge; Blood Order No. 349; Coburg Badge 14 October 1932.
Born in Munich, he was an early member of the party and one of the first members of the SA. He was well liked and apparently on very good terms with Hitler. A founder of the Stosstrupp, he participated in the 1923 Putsch and was incarcerated in Landsberg. In 1925, with the reformation of the party, he founded the Schutzkommando, which was charged with Hitler's safety and subsequently became the embryonic SS. From this time he was constantl.y at Hitler's side and succeeded Emil Maurice as his personal chauffer. Hitler considered him to be the best driver imaginable. In 1936 he contracted meningitis and died. Hitler was deeply distressed and gave him the honour of a state funeral.

Julius Schreck
Julius Schreck
Hitlers chauffeur. Born in Munich on 13th July 1898 and was an important figure in the development of both the SA and the SS. Inaddition, he was a prominent member of Hitler's personal entourage until his detah in 1936. Schreck was an early member of the NSDAP (No:53) one of the first members of the SA, and a co-founder of the Strosstrup Hitler. Like many others of this group, he was sent to Landesberg Prison for his part in the Beer-Hall Putsch. In 1925 he founded the "Schutzkommando", a group responsible for the Fuhrer's safety and a direct forerunner of the SS. He held SS no: 5.
Schreck is remembered with fondness by the surviving members of Hitler's inner circle. A well-liked man, he was apparently on very good terms with Hitler, who was distraught when he died. From 1925 to 1936 he was never far from Hitler's side. His last position, succeeding Emil Maurice, was that of Hitler's personal chauffeur. Hitler once said of Schreck "Schreck is the best driver you can imagine and our supercharger is good for over a hundred. We always drive very fast. But in recent years, I've told Schreck not to go over fifty. How terrible if something had happened to me"!
Schreck died of cerebrospinal meningitis on 16th May 1936 and was given a state funeral.

Re: Julius Schreck
A little late on this, but... it's true he had been promoted to SS-Brigadeführer, maybe posthumously? I remember finding notice in a book, but most sources list his final rank as SS-Oberführer. Any thought?
Kindest regards,

Re: Julius Schreck
He was SS-Brigadeführer, at least according at his rank insignia.
