He was born in Kiel

I believe he was originally with 23. SS-Standarte and he was commissioned as SS-Ustuf. 25 Nov 1933 (from 1935 DAL), in the 1936 & 1937 DAL's he is shown attached to SD-Hauptamt as SS-Ustuf. and then 1938 shows him promoted to SS-Ostuf. on 9 Nov 1938 and still with SD-Hauptamt.

There are no indications of 1914-18 service on the DAL's, no "1914-18 front fighter medal" and I reckon he was too young to be at the front, possibly a cadet or in training.

This is what I have on Kurt Stawitzki from my files.

During my research on Rudolf Hess I came upon this guy SS-Sturmbannführer Kurt Stawitzki,* 12. November 1900 in Kiel; † 20. September 1959 in Bad Godesberg. He only features on the very edge of the Hess story. Stawitzki fought in the latter stages of WW1 and afterwards joined the Freikorps then the Police in Hamburg in 1927. In March 1932 he joined the NSDAP (membership. 1114037) and in June 1932, the SS (SS no. 44 889). In 1933 he swapped his career in the Police for a career in the Gestapo. In October 1940 Stawitzki became Kommandeur der Sicherheitspolizei und des SD (KdS) in Krakow, Poland. After the Invasion of the Soviet Union in June 1941 Stawitzki arrived in Lemberg in July taking up the position of Befehlshaber der Sicherheitspolizei und des SD (BdS) . In this role he oversaw the murder of thousands of Jews and arranged the deportations to the infamous Belzec extermination camp It is estimated that Stawitzski was responsible for the deaths of around 160,000 Jewish men, women and children.. In November 1943 he was back in Hamburg where he oversaw the dismantling of the Hamburg branch of The White Rose Group. In July 1944 in the aftermath of the 20th July Plot Stawitzki was in Berlin serving in the Reich Security Main Office [ Reichssicherheitshauptamt (RSHA). In his role there he interrogated some of the July plotters including Hans von Dohnanyi who was brutally treated by Stawizki. During the latter stages of the war he oversaw the execution of many of the important members of the resistance groups. At Flossenbürg Concentration Camp he oversaw the executions of Wilhelm Canaris, Hans Oster and Dietrich Bonhoeffer on 9th April,1945. On April 21st,1945 he was back in Berlin. One of Rudolf Hess's close friends was Karl Haushofer the former General and geographer and politician. His son Albrecht Haushofer had been arrested after the 20th July Plot the previous year. Stawitzki was ordered by Heinrich Müller to get rid of the political prisoners still in custody as the Russians would soon liberate them.On the night of 22/23 April,1945, Kurt Stawitzki commanded a firing squad of SS men that executed a group of 16 prisoners in nearby ruins close to the Lehrter Straße prison Albert Haushofer was among the group which also included Klaus Bonhoeffer and Rüdiger Schleicher. The prisoners were shot in the neck. Thinking their work was done the execution squad left the area. One man survived a Communist prisoner called Herbert Kosney who had cruically moved his head at the last moment and was badly wounded. He managed to survive and tell the story post-war.
At the end of the war Stawitzki was in Flensburg where he recieved a forged passport under the name of Kurt Stein. He arrived in Bad Godesberg in October 1945 and remained there til his death in 1959 a free man never tried for his crimes.
