SS-Sturmbannführer Diehl - Bio request
Dear Folks,
I'm looking for a biography of an SS-Sturmbannführer Heinrich (or Gustav) DIEHL, responsible for war crimes in the DULAG 121 (Pruszków, Poland) while commanding a counterintelligence unit from August to November 1944.
Kind regards,

Re: SS-Sturmbannführer Diehl - Bio request
I think there is some mis-placed information in the first post.
The Dulag camps were under the control of army and Luftwaffe, not the Sipo and SD.
I am not aware that the different Durchgangslanger camps under the control of Sipo and SD (Malines and Amersfoort spring to mind) were ever called Dulags.
Therefore, a SS-Stubaf. Diehl could not have been commandant of said Dulag Pruszkow.
He may however have been a counter-intelligence official looking for C-I information from its prisoners.
I also have no Sipo official named Diehl as an SS-officer which probably indicates he was possibly something like SS-Sturmscharführer with a police rank of KrimSek or KrimObSek with the nearby Sipo Außenstelle Pruszkow.

Re: SS-Sturmbannführer Diehl - Bio request
Its not misplaced information. Dulag 121 were in command of SS, with support of Wehrmacht soldiers (around 100). Diehl was second in command after Kurt Sieber, which in fact only held administrative duties and was decent officer (for example: he disapproved gunfire at the camp). SS-Sturmbannführer Diehl and SS-Untersturmführer Wetke (dont remember the name) were the ones responsible for selections and transport destinations.
Keep in mind that this was not typical Dulag to begin with. And if you are not sure about something, don't make false statements, there are tons of materials in Dulag 121 museum (which is pretty small compared to actual camp) about those bandits: if you don't know about something, or didnt recall something, it doesnt mean it doesnt happened.

This picture is supposed to show SS-Sturmbannführer DIEHL in conversation on 18 September 1944 in Pruszków with Dr. Paul WYSS (Swiss citizen, International Red Cross) and Dr. med. Jadwiga OSZKIELOWA.

Re: SS-Sturmbannführer Diehl - Bio request
I can confirm it is. A book I have, "Storia segreta della Gestapo" (Secret History of the Gestapo, vol.2, A. Brissaud, F. LaRoche, J.Mabire and F. D'Orcival - Italian Edition Ferni, translated and commented by A. Percivaldi, 1973) has the pic with the caption "Il Maggiore di polizia militare Diehl incontra il Dottor Weiss insieme all'aiutante Dottor Trauber, Polonia, 1944 - "The major Diehl of the military police (sic!) meets Dr. Weiss (sic!) alongside adjutant Dr. Trauber, Poland, 1944".Minotauros wrote:This picture is supposed to show SS-Sturmbannführer DIEHL in conversation on 18 September 1944 in Pruszków with Dr. Paul WYSS (Swiss citizen, International Red Cross) and Dr. med. The photo is put in the context of the SS-International Red Cross tractatives that took place behind Hitler's back.
Problem is, the book mispells Wyss' name (maybe because of translation), appels to Diehl as a "military police Major" instead of proper SS nomenclature and mentions an obscure adjutant, dr. Trauber, which I suspect is the bearded Obersturmführer in the far behind, since the gentleman behind Diehl wears major/staff officer shoulderboars.
Kindest regards,

The woman is definitely not Dr. med. Jadwiga OSZKIELOWA but Jadwiga KIEŁBASIŃSKA née TYSZKIEWICZ (born 6.12.1904 in Lodz - died 2002).This picture is supposed to show SS-Sturmbannführer DIEHL in conversation on 18 September 1944 in Pruszków with Dr. Paul WYSS (Swiss citizen, International Red Cross) and Dr. med. in DAL 1.10.1944 he was a SS-Stuba(F) at RuSHA

So the Diehl in Dulag 121 must be SS-Stubaf Helmut Diehl, no other Diehl with that rank in any DAL.

Re: SS-Sturmbannführer Diehl - Bio request
Hello,
The bloke on the picture from September 1944 is clearly a SS-Sturmbannführer, not a SS-Obersturmbannführer.
Here's another frame: we see two officers holding the rank of SS-Sturmbannführer.
The DIEHL from DULAG 121 was described by a direct witness: "He was a tall man, about 175 cm, blond haired with a round, puffy, stout face. With a small limp in one leg".
The description fits the sulky and fierce looking guy we see on the right. Besides, a Verwundetenabzeichen 1939 is seen on his jacket (a war wound = limp in one leg).
The problem remains with his first name: in all Polish testimonies he's called "Heinrich". Once or two times - "Gustav"...
After October 5, 1944 DIEHL was appointed as the head of the Räumungsstelle Wola.
Regards,

The name is also mentioned in one testimony as "WIEDTKE".SS-Untersturmführer Wetke (dont remember the name)
Could be Josef WETTKE (27.05.1905) but I'm not sure about it...

Thinking "around the corner" opens probably another identity:
SS-Stubaf Dr.Heinrich Thiele - also Stabsarzt d.Res in Wehrmacht (DAL 1.10.1944)
