Great find, Darko (I must browse their site thoroughly).

By the way: was Kunaver shot in June or July? (MNZS says July, and his short bio on the previous page here - June)

Can anyone contribute please to this issue? I've read only that the 18th regiment was allowed to wear the Edelweiß, but it seems this wasn't the case. Any additional info is most welcome.

Ivan
Found this order:

Der Höhere SS- und Polizeiführer O.U., den 28. Nov. 1944.
im Wehrkreis XVIII
Führungsstab für Bandenbekämpfung

Tagesbefehl Nr. 31

Does anyone know whether the attack on the Partisan Pohorje Battalion was part of a larger anti-partisan operation, and, if so, what was its codename?

Thanks in advance,
Ivan

Hello Ivan,

SD in Lower Styria (Untersteirmark/Spodnja Štajerska) in Marburg/Maribor collect Data about "Pohorski bataljon" all the time.

Dr. Bauer propose bigger aktion against "Pohorski bataljon" on 12.12.1942 to Commander of Police Alpenland in Veldes/Bled.

In reality, this Aktion was in time from 15. till 18.12.1942. Involved was also Military and Wehrmanschaft.
"Pohorski bataljon" was all the time in motion and escaped battles so in the end Action failed.

On 21. 12.1942 was "Stabsbesprechung" and they realized (Novotny) that this Aktion was realy failure.

On 27.12.1942 the reorganized operation area because III./Pol.Rgt 24 left Untersteiermark.

Gestapo made a contract on 3.12.1942 with thre spies to collect the Data about "Pohorski bataljon". Spies Group was: Viktor Krippe, Franc Mumelj and Heinrich Richter. And realy this group came in the vicinity of camp of "Pohorski bataljon" on Osankarica on 2.1.1943 and report on 3. 1. 1943.

Reward for the Data was:
-Krippe: 250 RM
-Mumelj: 200 RM
-Richter: 200 RM

The bigest problem was, that they catch in Rače bei Maribor one partisan (Srecko Vigec) on the night from 3th till 4th January 1943. In the morning of 4th January 1943 they have exact position of camp of "Pohorski bataljon" and preparation of the aktion start.

So, it was not a part of larger anti-partisan operation.

All Data is from Book: France Filipič: Pohorski bataljon, Ljubljana 1963

Maybe is Interesting, from where came all Units to the Battle place:

Another great addition to the topic, Darko!

A question: did a company of the 922. Lds.-Btl. (mentioned by Filipič) participate in the fighting, and if so, was it a separate unit from the 350 Heer men (of an unnamed unit) listed in the action order? (either I'm blind or the 922. Lds.-Btl. wasn't listed in the orig. order)

Hello Ivan,

this Heer (350 men) was put together from:

- Lds.-Komp. (Lichtenberg/Sevnica)
- Lds.-Komp. (Tüfer/Laško)
- Lds.-Komp. (Windisch Feistritz/Slovenska Bistrica)
- Lds.-Komp. Marenberg/Radlje

See transport of this units, which was part of Lsch. Btl. 922 in the order:
http://www.arhiv.gov.si/fileadmin/arhiv ... M_II_3.jpg

This order was also sent to Lsch. Bat. 922:

Nachrichtlich: Kdr. d. L. S-. Btl 922, zugleich für Einheiten

About fighting of this soldiers is not easy something to say.

If we look how many people was killed in the Battle:

Police: 16 death and 26 wounded
Heer: 1 death and 2 wounded
Wehrmannschaft: 2 death and 3 wounded

For this two Wehrmann (both Slovenian) we know the names:
. Kurt Černčec
-Rudolf Rovšek

Police:
- Paul Schönfeld
- Heinz Busse
- Johann Scharl
-Johann Schernthammer
- Ernst Bresnig , Hipo (Slovenian)
. Johann Wodeb
-Jakob Schussmann
- Karl Kratzer
- Wilhelm Zahler
- Karl Siegl
- Karl Fuchs
- Josef Leitner
- Kilian Riedl
- Alois Lashofer
- Alois Ramschek
- Leopold Hollobek

I had check all this men by Volksbund: http://www.volksbund.de/graebersuche.html
Only Alois Lashofer is not listed by Volksbund. By others is some Data not right.

All this Policeman was buried in Cemetery in Cilli/Celje on 11.1.1943.

Aditionally died wounded Policeman Michael Pürmayr on 14.1.1943 in Hospital in Cilli/Celje. He was buried on 16.1.1943.

In the moment I do not know the names of two soldiers from Heer.

Darko
