Carl Benno Ditges and Karl Söchting

Post by George_W » 12 Nov 2017 14:48

Hello

What was the role of SS-Stubaf KR Carl Benno Ditges (born 1899) in occupied Yugoslavia? I'm asking because he was extradited in July 1947 by the US authorities to Yugoslavia. I don't have info where he was tried and what was the sentence but he was released from Yugoslavian captivity in 1953.

He was mentioned 3 times in BBL (39/1943, 53/1943 and 22/1944) but in connection only with Stapo Posen and RSHA-VI and not with Yugoslavia. So why the Yugoslavian authorities wanted him from the US after the war?

The same problem is with SS-Stubaf KR Karl Söchting (born 1903) who was extradited to Yugoslavia by the British and executed there but i can't find any connections between him and occupied Yugoslavia. He served as far i remember in Stapo Dortmund.

The only reason is that Ditges and Söchting may have been involved in crimes against Yugoslavians citizens in Germany but i also don't have any info about that.

Hallo George,

Karl Benno Ditges, Jahrgang 1899, Referatsleiter bei der Stapoleitstelle Posen.
Mai 1942 Abordnung zum BdS Belgrad. November 1943 Einsatz in Albanien.
Juni 1944 Versetzung zum RSHA/Amt V

Ditges was BdS Belgrade, Referatsleiter IV A1, A2 and A4, May 1942-Nov 1943; then in Albania to May 1944.

Söchting. I can not see why he was extradited to Yugoslavia. I have a slight gap in his career between 1941 and 1942 when he could have been in Belgrade, but no confirmation.

Thank you for the clarification and informations especially about Ditges and his duties in Yugoslavia. Another man who was extradited, sentenced to death in Yugoslavia was SS-Stubaf Erich Roth, connected according to my informations with Stapo Dortmund and RSHA. I also don't know why he was tried and executed in Yugoslavia.

Maybe as Roth and Söchting both served in Dortmund they were involved in crimes against Yugoslavians in the area of Dortmund?

Roth was extradited by the French to Yugoslavia.
His career does not include service in Yugoslavia. I wonder whether the victims (280) of the Romberg Park shootings, Dortmund, shot over a March-April 1945 by Gestapo Dortmund, included Yugoslavs.

I don't have any info about this man but it seems that he was not extradited to Yugoslavia by the British nor US authorities. Probably arrested in Yugoslavia or handed over by the Russians.
