SS-Officers during the Battle of Berlin

#1

Post by Halfdan S. » 29 Jun 2018, 12:18

Can anyone give information as to whether any of the following officers participated in the Battle of Berlin:

SS-Obersturmbannführer Dr. Otto Bradfisch; Kommandeur der Sicherheitspolizei und des SD Potsdam
SS-Sturmbannführer Kurt Buck
SS-Sturmbannführer Siegfried Conrad
SS-Hauptsturmführer Attila von Debschitz (Soviet Captivity 13.5.1945)
SS-Hauptsturmführer Georg Drobe
SS-Sturmbannführer d.R. Alfred Fischer
SS-Oberführer und Oberst der Polizei Dr. Hans Fischer
SS-Hauptsturmführer Hermann Fischmann (not in Führerliste)
SS-Sturmbannführer Friedrich Gläsker
SS-Sturmbannführer Göttsche (Venghaus, S. 69! The two Göttsche in Führerliste have both fallen before Berlin?!)
SS-Sturmbannführer Heinz-Dieter Groß
SS-Hauptsturmführer Helmuth Gutowski
SS-Sturmbannführer Johannes Hildebrandt
SS-Obersturmführer Eugen Himpel (Führerliste has him missing (‡?) from March 1945)
SS-Hauptsturmführer Ludwig Hoffmann
SS-Oberführer Viktor Knapp
SS-Hauptsturmführer Walter Körner
SS-Hauptsturmführer Otto Kroll
SS-Sturmbannführer Friedrich Kuhlmann
SS-Standartenführer Paul Kuhn
SS-Obersturmführer Georg Langendorf (injured before the Battle?!)
SS-Obersturmbannführer Friedrich Polte
SS-Obersturmführer Werner Radtke
SS-Sturmbannführer Karlheinz Schulz-Streeck
SS-Obersturmbannführer Kurt Seliger
SS-Obersturmführer Karl Semmelrock
SS-Sturmbannführer Kurt Senne
SS-Oberführer Georg Sieber
SS-Hauptsturmführer Richard Spörle - did he actually fall during the Battle itself? Volksbund says 17.4., Führerliste says 18.4., while Jonathan Trigg: Hitler's Vikings, p. 252, says "at pretty much the same time (as Per Sørensen, who fell on 24.4.).
SS-Sturmbannführer Wilhelm Stapper
SS-Obersturmbannführer Horst Töffling
SS-Hauptsturmführer Hans Wischmann
SS-Hauptsturmführer Fritz Zimmermann

I do not think Otto Bradfisch was involved in the Endkampf in Berlin.
Feb-April 1945 he was KdS Potsdam and in April heading west with false papers ("Karl Evers") into US captivity

Can not do any better than April 1945 for Bradfisch.
Kurt Senne, from your list, was Bradfisch's deputy who0 did not arrive until February 1945 (this is known), but Senne:
"In Jan 1945 took over a company of the newly-created SS Pol Regt formed from Sipo personnel within the area of IdS Berlin.”

If you hop on the ferry to Oslo you can see a copy of this PWIS interrogation in the Rijksmuseum

It was called Kampfgruppe Bock, led by leiter of Stapoleitstelle Berlin, SS-Standartenfuhrer Wilhelm Bock. It was the size of a reinforced battalion. It was also known as Kampfgruppe "Orkan" (Hurricane).

Personnel from Stapo Berlin received basic infantry training at the Doberitz Infantry School in March 1945, in preparation for the forming of the Kampfgruppe.

One of the other company commanders other than SS-Sturmbannfuhrer Kurt Senne was SS-Sturmbannfuhrer Walter Gade.

Bock was wounded in action on the grounds of Prinz-Albrecht Strasse, hit by shrapnel that nearly tore his leg off below the knee. He committed suicide in the Reich Chancellery bunker on May 1, 1945.

His Kampfgruppe defended the area around RSHA HQ along with a fusilier company from the 15th SS Division Latvia.

Thanks Steve, helpful to clarify that these two are one and the same, that is the SS-Pol. Rgt. and Kampfgruppe Bock. Also the additional info on Denne and Gäde being Kompanieführer.

Old thread.
SS-Hstuf. Otto Kroll became MIA in Stettin 03.45 so he can´t been part of the battle of Berlin.
