Some comments and speculation concerning the commanders of the III Bataillon.
Wilhelm Goecke
was the CO until Jun 1941. Before him there is a huge gap after Willi Bredemeier. Goecke could have been the CO of the III Bataillon since he left the I Bataillon 15 Jan 1941.
Karl Grimme
was the CO from 17 Jun 1941 and was relieved from command 26 Jul 1941(?). What I didn't know was that he was transferred to Nachschubtruppen. He stayed there only for a short period because he was transferred again 10 Aug 1941 to command SS-Infanterie-Ersatz-Bataillon "Nord".
Richard Benner
was the CO from 26 Jul 1941 but left the III Bataillon already in Dec 1941  to take over the I/SS-Infanterie-Regiment 7. Probably he was the last CO of the "old" III Bataillon.
Detlef Harzig
His old Bataillon (III/SS-Infanterie-Regiment 7) was renamed and replaced the old III/SS-Infanterie-Regiment 6. The question here is when did this renaming take place (late May 1942 or 15 Jun) and how long did he stay in III Bataillon.
Richard Wolf
was the CO from at least from Aug 1942 to Oct 1942. I don't know much about him.
Erwin Albrecht
It seems that Albrecht is the only known commander from 1943 all the way to 1945 with the exception of Jan 1945. The question here is was he the only commander or his he the only commander we know of?
Räde(c)ke Ernst
was the CO of SS-Panzergrenadier-AuE-Bataillon 11 until the end of Jul 1944. He was then transferred to Nord in Aug 1944 and he was KIA 28 Oct 1944. To my knowledge he was first the CO of SS-Panzergrenadier-Bataillon 506 (Aug 1944 - ?) and then the CO of GJR 11 (08 Sep 1944 - 28 Oct 1944). This leaves very limited time for other commands.
Karl-Heinz Jöhnk
The only thing I know about him is that he was the CO of III Bataillon on 13 Jan 1945.
Paul Schneider
The only thing I know about him is that he was the CO of III Bataillon on 15 Jan 1945.

Hyvää iltaa (good evening) Pena,

Some remarks about your last post:
You wrote that Karl-Franz Grimme left the division on 10.08.1941 to become CO of SS-Inf. Ers. Btl. "Nord". Would you please mention your source for this?
According to Charles Trang: "Dictionnaire de la Waffen-SS, volume 4", Éditions Heimdal, Bayeux, 2012, the replacement unit for the Kampfgruppe, later Division "Nord" had the following commanders:
Walter Zimmermann 09.1940 - 02.1942
Ernst Schützek 02.1942 - 01.10.1942
Heinrich Petersen 01.10.1942 - 04.1943
Werner Hahn 18.04.1943 - 25.08.1944
Leo Schulz 26.08.1944 - capitulation

With regard to the renaming of the battalion, I refer to source (8) where Franz Schreiber gives the date of 17.06.1942 for the major reorganisation and switch in names.

I agree with you that Räde(c)ke is not a likely candidate for CO of III./SS-Geb. Jg. Rgt. 11 and I shall remove him from my list of commanders. Thank you for pointing this out! It should be noted that Trang (source 11, see post 5) was the only source that listed him as such. I have no idea upon what he based his finding.
Räde(c)ke was never CO of SS-Pz. Gren. Btl. 506 in August 1944 as far as my sources tell me. First of all, the name SS-Pz. Gren. Btl. 506 was used only from December 1944 onwards. Before that it was SS-Schtz. Btl. 6. Renz got injured in July 1944, and was temporarily replaced first by Degen, and then by Gläsmer. In September the recovered Renz took control of the battalion again.
Rädecke came from the divisional staff and became CO of SS-Geb. Jg. Rgt. 11 in August 1944 (until his death on 28.10.1944.

Best regards,

Frans

Guten Tag (Good day) Charli,

Thanks for your post! My interest with "Nord" starts on 25.02.1941 when the Totenkopf-Standarten became Infanterie-Regimenten and part of the Waffen-SS. The signatures are from before that time. However I gave it a try.
The name of the Sturmbannführer I could not decipher, but the name of the Hauptsturmführer does not look like "Habben" (Marcus Habben, * 26.10.1903 Nordhausen, KIA 21.09.1941), but more like "Haller". This could be Hstuf. Karl Haller, * 20.07.1910 Tuttlingen. I found the name of Haller in Charles Trang: "Dictionnaire de la Waffen-SS, volume 4", Éditions Heimdal, 2012 on page 227. There he was listed as Ordonanz-Offizier in the staff of 6. SS-Totenkopfstandarte on 20.10.1939. He may well have been the temporary CO of the III. Sturmbann in late 1940. According to John P. Moore's Führerliste, he was Chef 12./SS-Inf. Rgt. 7 in 07.1941.
Then something about Konrad Gläsmer: John P. Moore's Führerliste lists him as IIa/III./SS-Inf. Rgt. 6 in 09.1941. He is also mentioned in
Axis History Forum - Phil Nix SS & Polizei section - Register of Waffen-SS officers from KTBs - page 18 - post 269.
He is listed as IIa in July and in December 1941 with Ustuf. Wolfgang Moser (* 18.07.1921) sometime in between. That's all I have.
Would you please give us your source(s) for the EXACT DATES you gave (see previous post) that Gläsmer was the IIa? I would be most interested!
Danke im Voraus!
Best regards,

Frans

Moin Moin,
I think "Haller" is the right name!
@Konrad Gläsmer,
I have the information from him.

Hi Charli,

Thank you very much for this interesting info on Gläsmer! So the spelling "Gläsmer" is the correct one, and not "Gläsner"?
Would you mind posting also the second half of the "Aufgliederung". Pena and I had an interesting discussion (see our posts above) about his alleged command of I./SS-Geb. Jg. Rgt. 11 in late 1944. That second half of your list may provide us with the definitive answer.
Feel free to comment on the list of battalion COs in our previous posts, preferably with sources.
Are you gathering information on Gläsmer in particular, or is there a wider picture ("Nord")? I'm just curious.

Mit herzlichem Gruß,
Frans

Hi Frans,

My source concerning Grimme is a AHF thread called Karl-Franz Grimme. Ignacio writes that he was assigned to SS-Inf.Ers.Btl. "Nord" 10 Aug 1941. Now that I take a closer look at this sentence I realise that it doesn't necessarily mean that he would have been the CO although he was a Sturmbannführer. To minimize the damage just leave the word command away from the last sentence. Anyway its my bad
The renaming of the Bataillons was a messy thing as far as I can remember. The old Bataillons got their names first and the new ones later but I'll have to check this.
I think Rädeke is the correct name. I knew that SS-Schützen-Bataillon 6 changed its name to SS-Panzergrenadier-Bataillon 506 but until now I didn't know when did the change take place. Thanks. This is a bit off topic but Degen was the CO of I/GJR 11 in Aug-Sep 1944. However, Gläsmer was there.
I shall hopefully continue tomorrow.

The renaming of the Bataillons (and Regiments) was indeed a messy thing. Using the search button I was able to find Ignacio's view of it in a thread called "SS-Stubaf Willy Braun & SS-Stubaf Adolf Braun". He says that I/I.R. 6 (under Bruno Schulz) became I/GJR 2, III/I.R. 7 (under Detlef Harzig) became III/GJR 2 and I/I.R.7 (under Richard Benner) became Schutzen-Bataillon "Nord" and that happend in late May 1942. More new names were introduced both in early and mid June.
One new Bataillon commander - Karl Haller.

Thank you both Charli & Frans!

Charly,

SS-Schutzen-Bataillon 6 is an interesting case although it isn't part of SS-Gebirgsjäger-Regiment 11. I'll come back to this later.
SS-Sturmbannführer Walther Bellwidt was the CO of I/SS-Totenkopf-Standarte 6 from 02 Sep 1939 to 16 Oct 1939. However, the Standarte was officially established only 11 Nov 1939 so this is out of our scope.
As far as I know Weitzdörfer was the first CO of 1./SS-Totenkopf-Standarte 6 until he left to command the I/SS-Totenkopf-Standarte 10 22 Jun 1940. So not a Bataillon commander in I/SS-Totenkopf-Standarte 6.
