Lichterfelde photo?

Post by Mannheim » 25 Oct 2019 17:01

Can anyone identify where this photo was taken? The Bundesarchiv source on the photo is the LSSAH barracks at Lichterfelde but I have been on a tour of those barracks and I don't recall seeing this building. I suspect it may be the barracks of another SS unit. Thanks in advance.

Look carefully at the fence, because there are welded the Leibstandarte AH initials. It seems to be a sports field, or an amphitheater inside the SS facilities...

OK, thanks. Makes sense. However, I can't see that there is a spot for it in the grounds (red arrow = swimming hall, blue arrow = a building that was not there during my tour in the late 1970s). It may well have suffered damage during the war and been demolished. Thanks again!

This map should help you. The area was turned back over in the 90s. The sportfield where this structure once stood is no longer there and was made into housing as was much of the surrounding area. It was located between Goerzalle, Altdorfer Straße, and Lausanner Straße.

The military man at center in second photo is Ramón Serrano Suñer Franco ( Spain) Minister of the Interior, and later Minister of Foreign Affairs
He visited several places in Berlin in 1940. wearing that uniform He visited the Headquarters Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler. 3 weeks later Hitler met Franco in French border Hendaya

The aerial colour photo by Mannheim - the blue arrow points to the new building for the Bundesarchiv. It has become something of a "white elephant" as the archival holdings should have been transferred over sometime ago. However, the building still remains only partially used by the staff.
Researchers are still using the low white building where the arrow begins.
The brick building on the left with two short wings (U shaped) I do not think is used; the white U shaped building it faces are apartments on a piece of land sold by the Bundesarchiv to fund the "white elephant"...
At the top of the picture and on the left of the picture are the older Siedlung buildings that accommodated LSSAH families - since done up for ordinary Berliners.

Thank you for the ID. Perhaps this photograph is from the same meeting at the French border Hendaya?

Don't think so. The man on the right looks like Count Ciano....Italian, not Spanish, but I could be wrong.

That visit was early October, 2 weeks before Hitler - Franco meeting in Hendaya.
the second photo is captioned on the web as" Ramón Serrano Suñer, during a visit to the headquarters of the Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler in October, 1940" same guys in this picture are in the picture opening the post about place. so that confirm location as Lichterfelde
He also visited Ribbentrop same day.

The uniform of Serrano Suner, is not regular Spain Army uniform, but FALANGE party uniform. I know a guy who interview him in 1995 Serrano died in 2003 / 102 years old perfect of mind. Serrano show him, gifts received from Hitler, Himmler, Ribbentrop, during that 1940 visit. He was also Brother in law of Franco, his wife was sister of Carmen Polo wife of Franco. But with Franco even family have not chance to mistakes, and Franco in 1950’s remove Him of office .

Forget to mention “the mistake” he made.
He cheat on his wife, who,was sister of Franco wife. And that was inaceptable for Franco couple.
He had a long affair, with a very hight class lady of Madrid Society, she was also married , her husband was very old man, and she get pregnant of Serrano, and had a daughter.
The soap opera do not end here.
The Daughter only knew who was his real father, many years later just 2 days before , she announced her wedding with the son or Serrano , Franco nephew. Her own half brother. Was very shocking for her to know fiancé was her half brother then self secluded in nuns convent . With the time she recovered and was EURO diputada in European parlament, but died young 57 years in 1999.
