On the 23th of April 1945 the Reichsminister and Chef des Reichskanzlei Dr. Lammers was put under Home-arrest(“Ehrenhaft”) at his home in Berchtesgaden by an SS-Sturmbannführer May!
I’m searching for the right SS-Sturmbannführer May. I think I’ve narrowed it down to Rudolf May(geb.13.11.1909) or Dr. Fritz May(geb.09.04.1887). Both were attached to the RSHA
Who knows more?
HM.
SS-Sturmbannführer May
Re: SS-Sturmbannführer May
Dr. Fritz May does not have a SSO (may mean he died before 1945); and Rudolf May was transferred to the Waffen-SS in Jan.-Feb. 1945.
Rudolf May was a career SD officer and the SD did not have powers of arrest.
"Ehrenhaft" and "Sippenhaft" were probably the province of the Gestapo and Kripo (Sipo).
The local Gestapo chief in Berchtesgaden did not necessarily have to be of officer rank, maybe a SS-Stuscha. and Kriminalsekretär.

Re: SS-Sturmbannführer May
Steve, thanks for your effort.
Remember, it’s the end of April 1945, the Reich was collapsing. So it was all hands up!
Attached is a part of the Letter written by Lammers himself on the 24th April. I don’t think he got the name wrong!

Re: SS-Sturmbannführer May
What about SS-Stubaf. Werner May, a SD Officer, posted in Jan 1945 from IdS Königsberg to IdS Munich probably as persönlicher Referent.
And he still needed a "Kriminalbeamten" with him.

Re: SS-Sturmbannführer May
Werner May was also in 02.1938 in SD-Oberabschnitt Süd ..
