SS-Ostuf. Grosch

#1

Post by j.north » 24 Jun 2003, 13:37

Can anyone help me with details of SS-Ostuf. Grosch (Sonderbeauftrager fuer Kriegsgefangene in 1941)? A brief bio and what his duties were would be most welcome!

Thanks,

J

My first posting :D

There are at least two Grosch in the SS, Wolfgang Siegfried Grosch and Volkmar Grosch.

At the end of the war both were SS-Sturmbannfuehrer. Their CVs are connected with CCs, slave labour and so on.

I think, the one you are looking for is Wolfgang Grosch.
He was on duty in several CCs since around 1935. There is also an affidavit of Wolfgang Grosch at the IMT: http://www.mazal.org/archive/nmt/05/NMT05-T1028.htm

And if the following document is correct, then there was also a Norbert Grosch.

Maybe he's the person you're looking for.

I don´t think there is a third Grosch in the SS building branches. Two are enough...

On 9.5.1942 Wolfgang Grosch was already Hauptsturmführer, so that this person must have been Volkmar Grosch.

Hello SuR,

So when I reed your answer correctly you just wanna say that Volkmar and Norbert Grosch are
identical. But could they be that wrong in the article, could they make a typing-error that big???

Possibly they did because it really looks like if there was no Norbert at all, only a Wolfgang and a
Volkmar. Well, at least we tried to solve the mystery.

Thanks,
Mike

Hello J.,
Here's some scrambled info on Volkmar Grosch and on Wolfgang Grosch. I say scrambled since I didn't had time yet to put it all together as a descent bio. And maybe some info doesn't belong to one of them but to the other, let's see what others have to say.....

Dipl. Ing. Volkmar Grosch.
Born on 7-3-1909 in Berlin-Grünewald.
SS-Obersturmführer.
Was Leiter der Baugruppe with the HSSPF in the Generalgouvernement Poland.
And till 27-9-1941 also Bauleiter in Buchenwald.
On 27-9-1941 he was appointed as chief from the new department(Dienststelle)‘Sonderbeauftragter für die Errichtung von Kriegsgefangenenlagern bei der Zentralen Bauinspektion der Waffen-SS und Polizei in Lublin. This Dienststelle belonged to the Staff from O. Globocnik.
Member SS(nr. 405.808).
SS-Obersturmführer.
Between 5-5-1942 till ?? 1942 he was head of the Bauinspektion ‘Russland Mitte’ in Mogilew, this because of the temporarily absence from W. S. Grosch.
From 21-6-1942 till 30-1-1944 he was employed within the SS-WVHA.
He was therefor one of the first trusted employees from H. Kammlers Sonderbau-Organisation.
On 1-5-1943 the HSSPF ‘Generalgouvernement’ transfered him to Amtsgruppe C within the SS-WVHA.
On 30-1-1944 he received the KVK2mS.
On 30-1-1944 he was promoted to SS-Hauptsturmführer.
On 14-3-1944(mit wirkung von 1-9-1943)he was transfered to the so called Aussenstelle X.
Around the same time he also was appointed as head from Bauvorhaben ‘Zement’(Aufbau der SS-Führungsstab)at Ebensee in Austria. Purpose of this work was to build underground fortifications to launch the V-1 and the V-2 so that they would be pretected against Allied bommings.
Apparently he was in the same period also head of the SS-Sonderinspektion IV(Bauvorhaben B7 to B10)within the
SS-Bauleitung in Vienna.
Mid April 1945 he most likely travelled with H. Kammler to the so called ‘Südraum’ and on 8-5-1945 some liberated prisoners in Ebensee recognized and killed him.
Died(murdered)on 8-5-1945 at Ebensee/Oberösterreich.

Wolfgang Siegfried Grosch.
Born on 15-9-1906 in Weimar/Thüringen.
Member NSDAP(nr. 863.731).
Member Allgemeine-SS(nr. 240.155).
On 1-11-1938 he was promoted to SS-Untersturmführer.
From 1-2-1938 till November 1941 he was employed within the SS Administration Office under Eirenschmalz within the SS-WVHA.
SS-Obersturmführer.
From November 1941 till ?? he was employed within the Central Russian Office from the SS-WVHA.
From 27-9-1941 till ?? he was head of the Dienststelle ‘Sonderbeauftragter für die Errichtung von Kriegsgefangenenlagern bei der Zentrale Bauinspektion der Waffen-SS un Polizei in Lublin’.
SS-Hauptsturmführer.
In 1942 he was head of the Bauinspektion ‘Russland Mitte’ in Mogilew.
He was also employed within Amtsgruppe C from the SS-WVHA and therefor a trustworthy employee from H. Kammler. From 1-3-1944 till 10-5-1944 he was employed within the Bauinspektion der Waffen-SS und Polizei ‘Böhmen und Mähren’ in Prague.
On 20-4-1944 he was promoted to SS-Sturmbannführer.
From 10-5-1944 till 1-10-1944 he was most likely employed in Riga.
From 1-10-1944 till ?? 1945 he was employed as Bauleiter in Buchenwald.

Great work, Mike.

Some more notes:

- In some documents, these two guys are called 'Grosch' and 'Grosch II'. 'Grosch' was Wolfgang, and 'Grosch II' was Volkmar.

- 'Aussenstelle X' is the code word for the 'Sonderstab Kammler' aka 'Baubüro Kammler' at Taunusstrasse 8, Berlin-Grunewald. As far as I am aware Volkmar Grosch was the first member of Aussenstelle X.

- In the telephone directory of 'Führungsstab S III' (S III was Hitler´s latest, never finished headquarter near Ohrdruf / Thuringia), Luisental branch, from 1944/45 also a "Grosch" is listed.

I don´t know, which one of the two Grosch this was. Unfortunately, both come into consideration.
Does anyone know which Grosch is meant here?

Best regards,

Florian

Mike.

So Wolfgang S. Grosch served in KL.Buchenwald from 10.44 till the end of the war or close to it?
What position is "Baulieter?"

'Bauleiter' means construction manager - unusual for an StuBaF.
