I have SS-Gruppenführer und Generalleutnant der Polizei Ernst Konrad HITSCHLER (Befehlshaber der Ordnungspolizei in Ungarn) as missing in action (not killed in action) near Budapest on 20 II 1945.
Anybody knows the exact circumstances of his disappearance?

Hitschler was neither KIA nor MIA; per Andreas Schulz & Dr. Dieter Zinke, Die Generale der Waffen-SS und der Polizei, Band 2, he died of illness in Soviet captivity at the Honvéd Hospital, Budapest on 20.02.1945. He is buried in the Kriegsgräberstätte in Budaörs, Hungary.

Does that mean that he was entrapped in the cauldron of Budapest along with the IX.SS-Waffen-Gebirgskorps der SS on 26 XII 1944 and that he was made prisoner of war on 11 II 1945?

this is an usual mistake found in some topics.
just remember that Hitschler was only Oberstleutnant der Gendarmerie in 1940. He had no qualification for divisional leadership : he was c.o. of a battalion of Feldgendarmerie during polish and western campaigns.

From 1 till 8 September 1940 he also was commander from the Polizei-Division(which became later the 4. SS-Polizei-Panzergrenadier-Division).
