Photo of SS General with interesting shoulder boards
Hello all, I hope this post finds you all in good health.
A while ago, I saw a very interesting photo of an SS General who was wearing two different types of shoulder boards. On one shoulder he wore the pre-1942 regulation one, while on the other he had a post-1942 SS board.
I have no idea how he would've gotten away with this 'punk' (for lack of a better word) choice. As you all know, the SS were very tight on their emphasis on uniformity and smartness, especially concerning their officers. I assume it would've been overlooked due to his high rank/personal friendship with the upper echelons.
I am wondering if anybody else has also seen this photo, and if they do have it in their possession, I would be very grateful if they could share it.
Thanks,
Frog

Re: Photo of SS General with Interesting Shoulder Boards
The only explanation could be that he was in the process of changing his SS Allgemeine uniform into a Waffen SS uniform. I have never seen any photo like that.

Re: Photo of SS General with Interesting Shoulder Boards
That is possible, but I don't know why that would lead him to have a photo taken of himself with mismatching shoulder boards. It seemed more like a personal choice to me, odd because the SS were massive sticklers for conformity.
I believe the photo portrayed him sitting outside at a garden table, reading a book.

I will admit it is strange. I definitely saw it on this forum ~1 year ago, I just wish I had saved it.jim toncar wrote: ↑02 Dec 2021, 19:34I find this posting a bit hard to believe ? but then again only been collecting 55 years .

Personally, I would not rule out anything, especially around 1945, the "uniforming" of the Volkssturm at that time gives anything, in any combination, absolutely anything was possible.
Old men and children were sent to the front with single-shot rifles and ammunition from imperial german decades.
This ammunition was often so ancient, that the cartridges no longer even ignited.

I don't remember seeing this here.
Are you sure it was a B/W vintage photo ?

Yes, I am very sure it was black and white and had substantial grain.
Granted, it could have been a mock-up photo done post-war.
