Hi,
have you more informations of this Oberführer Erich Tschimpke? Was he captured? Sentenced? Have you names of other COs from the "milizia armata"?
Best regards
Oliverio

In the photo, SS-Stubaf. at far left is eventual SS-Ostubaf. Sepp Krafft (an excellent portrait photo of him also appears in Cornelius Ryan's A Bridge Too Far); further info on him appears at: http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic. ... ght=krafft

Best,

About him and the italian SS , I find in internet a listing from Marcus Wendell mentionning him and Heldmann as commanders of the 29.SS ,but all his writing about the italian SS unit (where he forgot Brigadefuehrer Manelli ) is absolutely wrong ,also on the strenght of the italian division .

Italian brigade/division:

First Kdr was italian Brigadefuehrer Manelli . Later he remained as
generalinspektor of the unit ,in charge of training (Kommandostab at Brianza)

By december 1944 the Kdr was Brigadefuehrer Peter Hansen (a Volksdeutsche from Chili and "father" of the Waffen-SS artillery .)

Tschimpke was in charge of the propaganda services of this SS unit .

Source "Le SS italiane" by Ricciotti Lazzero states that Piero Manelli (who was ranked Waffen Brigadeführer der SS)
was Inspekteur der Freiwilligenwerbung in Italien from 24.3.44 but never led italian division itself.

"Le SS italiane" is far from exhautive ...better book is the one of Marco Nava about le legione SS italiane .
Anyway ....
Not the division ,but yes the brigade was runned for some days by Manelli ,after that he was inspector of the unit (like in the Charlemagne where Puaud was commander and Krukenberg inspector ) tasked with training/recruiting.
