SS-Standartenführer Joachim Peiper

I've heard Joachim Peiper was a sales manager for Porsche company during 50's and some pressures made him retired to the camp in France where he was murdered in 1976. What I'd like to know is the real reason of that killing.

Hello Roderick,

Well I get this in "III Reich Encyclopedia" pag 697.

About Peiper:

"... In early 1970 he settled in Traves, in the French Jura mountain range. When it became know who he was, a press campaign against Peiper flared under the leadership of the Communist Newspaper L´Humanite. Demands arose for his inmediate expulsion. After death threats, his house was set afire on the eve of the French national holiday in 1976. Peiper´s charred corpse was found in the bourned-out structure. An underground organization called Les Vengeurs (The Avengers) took credit for the deed. The perpetrators were never caught."

If you read AFTER THE BATTLE magazine, issue 40 - there is a full investigation of the murder, photos of the house after being burned down and also now, a lot of information and photos.

It is a persistent myth that Peiper was murdered. But it is actually not true.
Actually Peiper was killed when he entered into his burning house to retrieve his belongings and a beam fell upon him. He had already collected a pile of his belongings in the courtyard. The forensic investigation revealed no bullet wounds in the body of Peiper whatsoever. The post-mortem revealed that the cause of death was smothering caused by smoke.
