Hi forum,
I have problems with the uniform of Karl Brenner!
The pic shows him before his decoration with the Knight Cross (31.12.1944). According to his personal file he was at that time SS-Gruppenführer and Generalleutnant der Polizei !!
But on the pic he shows the black (!) collar insignias of the Waffen-SS, also the SS sleeve eagle (Waffen-SS) on his upper left arm!
Properly he has to wear the police sleeve emblem and the green collar insignias !!
Who can help in this confusion ?!

Cheers Oberstab

Hi Oberstab!

According to the ABR site, Brenner was promoted SS-Gruf.u.Gen.Lt.d.W-SS. on 15. Mar. 1944.

Hi VJK,
no, this not correct. In his personal file (AnDie saw it !!) is only recorded the followings:
15.03.1944 SS-Gruppenführer
15.03.1944 Generalleutnant de Polizei (mit Wirkung vom 01.01.1944 und
RDA vom 01.03.1944)

Also in the DAL (Dienstaltersliste) dated from 09.11.1944 he is only Generalleutnant der Polizei (not simultaneus "der Waffen-SS").
Where is the proofing of "The Waffen-SS" at any time, AnDie could' nt find a membership in the Waffen-SS in his file.
But this is not out of the question in 1945 (then with the knight cross on a pic !)

Cheers
Oberstab

Hallo sebas,
Hans Baur died 17.02.1993 in Herrsching am Ammersee (Bavaria).

You can see his complete bio (also completions from AnDie or myself) in "Die Generale der Waffen-SS und der Polizei", Biblio-Verlag Bissendorf, 2003

Merry Christmas

Hi Dieter
It would appear that often officers did not wear exactly the correct uniform. Those coming from the Schutspolizei commonly refused to wear full SS uniform and continued in Police uniform, Alfred Wunnenberg was a such a case as shown in the pictorial history of the Police Division.
The same thing happened with the wearing of medals. I believe it should not be assumed that a man had not received an award because he is not shown wearing it.
