Hildebrandt held the position of SSPF Istrien, shortly after he left "Prinz Eugen" Div.. He held this position not to long, because Wolff "called" him to Italy - SS-PF Italien-Mitte).

AFAIK K.H. Bürger became SSPF Oberitalien-Mitte instead of Hildebrandt in the middle of August 1944 and moved to Garda Lake.

Were 38. and 41. Brigata Nera (Black Brigades) under direct command of Globocnik or were they under B.d.O.?

I don't know about the Brigata Nera, but I have checked the roster that I have for SS and Police Leader as well as Bandenbekämpfung staffs but I could not find any Abteilung I N or I SP or anything similar besides the Nachrichtenführer. Are you sure that the two denominations are correct?

In Ferenc's article on German police in OZAK he stated that there were also 2 Stabs-Abteilungen I N and I SP in Globocnik's Personalstab, but he didn't find any other info on personal or duties of these 2 sections.

Another mistery!

Thanks for posting this photo!

Do you know:
- where (probably in one of SS-schools?) and when (maybe in '44?) was this photo taken,
- who is SS-Ostuf.
- what kind of Armband is Globocnik wearing?

Kocjo

Initially they were 2 black brigades with number 41 the Trieste BN and the Florence BN, this probably for the particulary situation in the OZAK specially for the bad feeling between the Germans and the local membrs of the Fascist Party. After the problem on the number was resolved the Trieste BN keep the number 41 and the Florence BN became the number 39. In Udine Pavolini (Secretary of the PFR) ordered the formation of the 38^BN with fascists of the Udine and Gorizia provinces included the important town of Pordenone where it was one active and strong nucleus of fascists (today Pordenone is a provence but at that time it was under the jurisdiction of Udine), the commander would have had to be the Federale (Leader of the PFR at provincial level) Mario Cabai. Pavolini found also a possible name, this time instead of a PFR member killed he choose the name Venezia Giulia (There still was a "Venezia Giulia" Assault Legion in the GNR) . Pavolini went to the OZAK in winter 1944-45 in order to find one solution for the RSI authority in the area and probably between several problems to discuss there was also the 38^Black Brigade, on this thema Pavolini obteined nothing probably because the germans were interested not to create problems with the other ethnic communities. To the end the 38^BN never was formed but it was formed an aggressive bataillon with the 5^MDT Legion, it was the BATTAGLIONE FASCISTI FRIULANI that grouped all the fascists of the Udine and Gorizia provinces but as part of the 5^MDT Legion and not as an indipendent 38^BN that in reality never existed, the company formed from Pordenone fascists was under the order of Capitano Vettorini. Some source stated that number 38 was assigned to the Pistoia Black brigade but also this seems false, the fascists from Pistoia were included in the Operative Black Brigade "Garibaldi", that it would have had to fight the last battle in Valtellina, so number 38 seems to be the only number not assigned to a Black Brigade. I pick the occasion for greeting the members of the forum, I make excuses myself if I was often provocative, but I will go some months in Estonia and probably I will have no time to participate to what it is in absolute the better forum on the II WW. Does anyone has a large map of territorial organization of SS-PF in OZAK (where you could see border of administration of SS-PF)?

Would anyone have some photos of city of Bozen/Bolzano including some of the surrounding mountains? I have some photos of a swearing in ceremony of police auxillaries and I believe it occured in Bolzano. I would like to see if I could verify with geographical landmarks.
