Hello
His last unit would have been 2/Wach u. Ausbildung Kp. He is credited for having destroyed 6 Soviet tanks in the Berlin battle. I will have a look in my French archives to see if I can find more details. *
Bernd Diroll in his books (Personal Lexikon der NSDAP, SS Führer) published by Klaus Patzwall shows a clear photo of Appolot but I don't know if this is really him. Diroll states that he was still living after the war. As far as I know, this was the first time that I read this point. All other sources said he was killed in Berlin in the last days of April or beginning of May.
Appolot is not listed in the official list of KC holders (contrarily to UScha. Eugène Vaulot or Hpstuf. Henri Fenet). The other KC holders from the Charlemagne division was Ostuf. Wilhelm Weber who was the CO of the Div. Kampfschule.
Regards
Denis

indeed Apollot recieved the Knight Cross, presented him from Wilhelm Mohnke in the "Bunker" of the "Reichskanzlei" , so as he did with Fenet, Fey, Gieseler ( ? ), Herzig, Körner, Schäfer, Vaulot and Weber.
6 or 7 years ago I saw an information in "Der Freiwillige" concerning he was still alive, showing also a (poor) foto of this time.
Also in the newest edition of Walther-Peer Fellgiebel (Podzun Pallas, 2000)
"Die Träger des Ritterkreuzes....." Apollot is missing.
Cheers

...just to mention:
"Decorations & Awards:

"Oberscharführer der SS, Zugführer in the
Divisionskampfschule der 33.Waffen-Grenadier-Division der SS "Charlemagne" (französische Nr. 1) " is of course no decoration, but rank&unit.
"1939 Eisernes Kreuz I. Klasse
1939 Eisernes Kreuz II. Klasse"
I know you are referring to the 1939 class EKs, but it would look like he recieved them in 1939. Which he appearently did not. You could simply remove the "1939"?

Sorry to make so many postings in a row, but I just had my sources handy, and quote: He was a German POW intil 1942, when he served as a "Freiarbeiter" - "Free worker" so to say. This was in Pillau and Königsberg. The story says he was caught redhanded in bed with the bed of his "Schichtmeister", and had to choose between army service or a KZ.
He was in the Navy (SStA 28) only in May/June 1944, before being transferred to "Charlemagne".
Bon nuit!

Thanks, gentlemen! Terrific information and photo.
Yes, Bjorn- you're right. I should probably omit the "1939", as it's obvious that it was the 1939 (and not 1914, 1870, or 1813:o) EK's that he received.
Best wishes,
~ Mike

Hello everybody.
I want to confirm that François Appollot is a Ritterkreuzträger.
He is mentioned in the book "Berlin 1945 by Georges Bernage, Editions Heimdal" although with the name Robert Appollot, but I can´t find him in neither http://www.feldgrau.com nor http://www.das-ritterkreuz.de, in the other hand I can find Henri-Joseph Fenet and Eugène Vaulot in both of them.
Best regards.
Jordi

His name is not in Scherzer "Ritterkreuztrager 1939-1945"
