SS-Standartenführers alive as of today

#1

Post by SS-Researcher » 13 May 2004, 00:02

Hi!
Can anyone supply information about the Standartenführers still alive? I only know of Dr. Knochen, but I don't have any idea from when this information dates?
Are there any ex-SS-men with the rank of SS-Oberführer still alive?

All the best and thank you very much :)

Best wishes
Florian

By the way - if you do not want to publicly post such information don't hesitate to drop me a PM :)

Most of those men werein their 30's and 40's if they would have lived by now they would be almost 100 by now.

The following “youngsters” would be less than 100 if still living, though most (and possibly all) are not. I know for a fact that some are deceased but I don’t have any of my books or papers (other than the 09.11.1944 from which the list was drawn) with me at present.

Hello Mike -
Thank you very much :) This is a good point to start from; some of them are KC holders and these are defenitely all dead :( but perhaps there is a chance that some others are still alive?

Does anyone know more?

Thanks in advance and best wishes
Florian

Florian you live in Germany right? Then you could get a phone book and look at the names Mike Miller provided you with and call them.

Why not leave them alone?
If someone finds it necessary to contact them for serious research purposes, then write them a letter instead of calling them.

Just my two cents as the saying goes.

Oh yeah- great idea. Use something I did- posting a list from the 9.11.44 DAL- as a means toward potentially bothering the elderly. Alec, that's not how it's done. You go through veterans' organizations, archives, and other traditional sources to find out about history and those involved in it-- not to a phone book.

Thanks, Rouille.

Karl Stoßberg (whom I originally entered as "Stossberg"; Lfde.Nr. 1349 in 9.11.1944 DAL) and Hans Eckhardt (Lfde.Nr. 1343 in 9.11.1944 DAL) were both promoted SS-Staf. on 9.11.44.

Hello and thanks to all for the help so far. :)

I never call a veteran on the phone at first instance. If I wish to get in contact, I usually write letters and I have had some (few) talks at the phone later on (after having started via mail).

I asked for the still living men because I plan to contact them via mail if possible as they are first hand sources and can give accounts on many not well known things. I am especially keen to get in contact with some former members of the Allgemeine-SS to ask some questions.
The main problem is that today, many old men are / seem to be afraid to answer questions because they don't want to catch public attention in the end. Some recent cases in Germany (Bikkers) show what can happen to former SS-men when getting to much public attention.

Best wishes
Florian

I have now had a close look at Michael's list (thanks again! :) ).

I ordered it alphabetically and tried to sort out as many men as possible. The result is - well - not very satisfying. Have a look for yourself. I'd really like to sort out those defintely dead.

Can anyone add death dates and places for these men? Also - can anyone add birthplaces?

All the best and thanks in advance :)

Because it is always interesting to hear or read what these people have to say and I think it is a great opportunity to get accounts from people who experienced the past times. Remember that there is not much time left to ask the ones who lived through that times. ;)

Best wishes
