SS-Navy
Gentlemen!
From Otto Skorzeny's book "My Commando Operations," it mentions about Waffen-SS soldiers manning small armed coastal ships on the Danube River with plenty of success. They sank plenty of Soviet coastal shipping. That was "Operation Trout." Also the men from the Waffen-SS operates one man torpedoes and explosive crafts. I wonder if this SS-Navy also got into action on the Oder and Rhine Rivers a few months before the end of the War? Very little is known about this coastal navy. Special Forces of the Third Reich were a mysterious bunch indeed.

Hi,
A unit of Waffen-SS frogmen were sent to destroy a bridge over the Rhine. They were consisted of convicts that were promised would get back their's honor if they performed the mission. Unfortunately, they didn't want again to sacrifice themselves for the honor, let alone the "Führer", the fatherland, etc...Thus, it was no surprisingly that when they appeared above the water they soon surrender to English soldiers... Bless the people who like to help others

Hallo Forum,
look at “Unternehmen Weißdorn“:
Leutnant zur See der Reserve (Sonderführer) Heinrich Garbers sailed for six times across the Atlantic for the Abwehr under Admiral Wilhelm Canaris.
With tiny sailing-boats he reached South-America and Namibia (53.415 nautical miles in 545 days) to deposit agents there (they were all captured !!).
SS-Kaltenbrunner presented him the Knight’ Cross from 01.11.1944 in Fürstenwalde together with SS-Schellenberg, the new Chef des Amtes Mil. (Ausland / Abwehr) im RSHA since July 1944.
Garbers started in the harbour of Arcachon near Bordeaux.

I Doubt it!
Gentlemen,
I really doubt it that the SS frogmen were of ex-convicts. And being a frogman is not for cowards at all! Skorzeny wanted men who had a good military record to join his Special Forces. Forget the Allied version that they were cowards!

Re: SS-Navy
Were there any names of any SS-frogmen (enlisted and NCOs) that particularly distinguish themselves in operation "Trout"?

Re: SS-Navy
I read a novel that was written by Higgins called "The Black Ship". It was about a German destroyer that was manned sailors of the SS-Kriegsmarine. I don't know how Higgins came out with the idea of German sailors that were in the SS manning a German destroyer.

Re: SS-Navy
Anybody got more answers to share about the men and boats that belong to this SS-Kriegsmarine?

Re: SS-Navy
I don’t know how to send a link on this forum, but under this forum if you put “SS entered into the Kriegsmarine Ehrentafel” it will list three SS men who were honored for their exploits while! They can be found in the book by Bernd Gericke which lists DKG/DKS and EBS holders of the KM!
