Dear all

I have seen on a website an "eidestattliche Erklärung" (statement) from Paul Blobel. There he said that his rank in "allgemeinen SS" was SS-Scharführer and his Rank at the SD was SS-Standartenführer. This ranks were in the same time. Can anybody explain me the this difference. I know that some persons have different ranks in the Waffen-SS than in the "allgemienen SS".

Hello !
It seems to me that there is a mistake somewhere as a member of the SD is forcefully a member of the Allgemeine-SS. The SD was no more than a branch of the SS. We sometimes find written "SD-Sturmbannführer" but it's wrong.
Notice that Allgemeine-SS was a term used later in the 30's to underline a difference with the Waffen-SS (name officially adopted in 1940).

I thought something like that. The text is in German so it can not be a translation mistake. But maybe he meant that the rank of him in the Waffen-SS was SS-Scharführer d.R.. Until now i did not find any rank of him in the Waffen-SS.

Can anybody confirm that the rank of Paul Blobel in the Waffen-SS was SS-Scharführer d. R.

Blobel was an actual SS-Scharführer (as opposed to SS-Scharführer d.R. of the Waffen-SS) with the SD in the early- to mid-1930's. He joined the SS on 1. Dec. 1931 but was not commissioned SS-Untersturmführer until 21. Mar. 1935.

A most interesting find indeed. Always been interested in this person ever since I read Gerald Green’s work of fiction and saw the television movie based on that novel. So that was Blobel in
