Bad Tölz, class of 1938...

#1

Post by Timo » 25 Aug 2002, 23:20

Hallo forum,

Can somebody please provide a list of graduates of the SS-Junkerschule Bad Tölz for 11 November 1938? Thanks to John Moore I have a DAL that gives the class of those listed as Stubaf. or higher in 1944, but obviously those who were KIA by then are missing.

Thanks in advance and regards,
Timo

Thanks, Peter. Exactly what I was looking for. Just one small question (or two actually). The numbering (Knittel being no.6) is it original? Because I also received such a list yesterday which just lists everybody in alphabetical order. And do you know when their SS number was issued? When they joined the SS or when they attended the Junkerschule, when they graduated or at an other date/occasion?

Regards,
Timo

Timo,

I put those numbers before their names; just to give me a visual count of how many were on the course.

This list is from an SS-Verordnungsblatt, dated 9. November 1938.
The names are in the exact same order as in the SS-Verordnungsblatt, in three columns.

I have seen many officer course lists and promotion lists. On being commssioned an SS officer, the majority of times they give only the date-of-birth, and on some others, they give SS numbers only for some the participants and date-of birth only for the rest of the participants.

I have seen many a SS NCO and men rosters, and they do have their SS numbers after their names.

As of yet, I haven't figure it out, assuming that they are given an SS number as soon as they are accepted into the SS. Maybe they are waiting for the results of their ancestry before given an SS number?

I will be continuing to do research on this subject and when I do I'll let you know.

All the best,

Peter

This is an awesome list. The SS# for Gerd Bremer is: 310 405

Knittel graduated 7th in his class - on this list he is #6.

When it says they were commisioned as Ustuf. on 09.11.1938, does this mean there was also some sort of graduation ceremony at this date or was this earlier? Can somebody add some details about such ceremonies, especially for this class?

Timo

Timo,

The place to look is the Bad Tolz Stadt Archiv. They have complete bound copies if the Tolzer Kurier of this time.
I viewed these just last week and was impressed . It's too bad that that I didn't have this ceremony in mind, I would suspect that it may have been covered (if you recall I referred you to a photo of this class from the Tolzer Kurier archives some time ago). Addittionally, the Tozer Kurier itself is said to have a set as well, but I personally have not seen them.
I must say that sometimes it can be a little tricky , politically , when requesting to see such archival material.

Thanks for this very useful information. Unfortunately I don't remember the photo you're referring to. Do you have a scan of it?

67 Dieckmann, Adolf SS-Nr. 309 894
Is this the SS officer who was responsible for the destruction of Oradour Sur Glane?

I heard that there are confusing names for this guy...Adolf Dieckmann or Otto Dieckmann or Adolf Dickmann or Otto Dickmann?

Well, not bad for an SS officer who wantonly destroys and slaughter of innocent civillains to graduate around in the middle of the class

Timo,

there is a picture of the 1938 class graduation ceremony in:
"In perfect formation"
SS-ideology and the Junkerschule Tölz
Author Jay Hatheway
Schiffer Publishing

I recall that the pic is also in the Junkerschulen book by Schulze-Kossens AND it appeared a few months ago on this forum. Just do not ask me which post it was........

I suppose the pic came from the Tölz municipal archive.

@Timo and panzermahn:
The SS-officer who gave the orders to burn Oradour down was August Dieckmann.

Some of the other classmates of Knittel and Bremer later also became good leaders of troops, like Hans Dorr and Hans Juchem who led some troops of the Wiking; Kurt Anton Berlin was from 1943 to'45 Kompaniechef of the 1./SS-PzRgt. 12 "Hitlerjugend"

Sorry August Dieckmann was killed in action 10.10.1943 as Staf whilst serving with Wiking Divsion. Dienmstaltersliste der Waffen SS stand 1.Juli 1944 shows Adolf Dieckmann as Kdr I/4 Rgt in 2 SS Div DR and he was killed in action 29.6.44
