Hello again,

I don´t know if this is the right thread, but I have to tell you a very interessting
thing about SS-Standartenführer Johannes Mühlenkamp, in the deathnotice about him
and when some of his former soldiers from SS-Pz.Rgt.5 telling their thoughts and
memories about their old Rgt.Kdr. (among them Dr. M Renz) it´s told that Mühlenkamp
was wounded 14 (!!) times during the war.
The only ones I can rememer being wounded more times or similiar is SS-Obfhr Dirlewanger
(most of them from WWI and his time in Freikorps and other wars), SS-Ostubaf H. Dorr of
SS-Pz.Gren.Rgt. 9 "Germania", and if am not totally wrong I think that SS-Ostubaf Kaiser of
"Der Führer" was among them who was wounded more then 10 times during the war.

Amazing that Mühlenkamp survived the war. He had more lives then a cat.

I just wanted you to know.

Best regards,

Georg

Hello Georg,

Thanks for all the info, I've alot of work to do.

But something on Karl Zimmer.
I've that he was KIA on 21-3-1945 at the eastern front and you're saying he died in 1980(see a prvious post from
yourself in this thread). So what is correct, because also my Karl served in 'Wiking', so it must be the same person.

Greetings,
Mike

Hello Mike,

The info I have posted here is from different "Der Freiwillige" and in every issue from the
late 70´s they had a page or two with names of former members who had died.
And to be put to this page you had to have some contact to former members of the Waffen-SS
because it´s not a official deathads which you collect from the goverment etc.
So i Zimmer case some of his old friends from the Wiking or other division have reported that he died
and then it have been published in the Der Freiwillige.

Best regards,

Georg

Jost Schneider told me that Muhlenkamp when awarded the IK 1 ordered his unit not to wear overcoats as he wanted to show of his medal and his men had to wear what he wore

Well Phil,

I didn´t know that. But it seems that our Mühlenkamp was rather vain.
Hmm I can admit that the SS uniform and esp. the panzer uniform
was very good looking uniforms. so I can slightly understand, why he wanted to show the medal off.
And what I know was the EK I a medel the soldiers valued high in the early years of the war.

Hello George,

Thanks. I guess the DoD I've was maybe a MIA-report, it happened more that somebody was reported as MIA but that he was alive in fact.

Hello Georg,

About the officers you posted on page three.
Hinze. Had him but didn't knew he served with 'Wiking'.
Niemeyer. Had him but didn't knew his unit.
Hübner. Had him but didn't knew his unit.
Heitmann. Is he the same as the Heitmann who served at Kraftfahrschule in Apeldoorn???
Rau. Is he the same as the Rau who also served in LSSAH(don't have a Christian name from this Rau)???
Horstmann. He later became CO SS-Pz.Gr.AuE Btl. 5, is that correct???
Schiller. He also served with 23. SS-Div. 'Nederland'. Was that before or after his service with 'Wiking'???
Frels. Had him but didn't knew his DoB.
Wallner. You wrote as DoD 1896, this of course should be 1996 I guess????
Renz. Had him but I only new he was CO Aufklärungszug, all the rest was new for me.

Thanks,
Mike

Hello Mike,

I am glad that I can help you.
About Rau, I can´t unfortunately give you more info on him as said here, he is not in Moores list sa well.
Hsi DoB doesn´t fit to any of all Rau´s known. Maybe someone else can give us a hint.
One more that doesn´t exist anywhrer besides Der Freiwillige.
About Schiller, yes he served in "Germania" before his time in "Nederland"
his exact duty was TFK in "Germania".
About Horstmann, it´s the only info I have.
Wallner yes of course it would be 1986 not 1896.

More about Rau, I have a SS-Ustuf Herbert Rau as well born: 20.8.12
Attached to SS-Pz.Gren.Rgt. "Germania" later chef 1./SS-A.A.6 "Nord" as SS-Ostuf.

All the info you got here he last posts is from deathnotices from Der Freiwillige during the 80´s
But I have only scratched the surface, and I will send you long list in Worddocument
with members of the "Wiking" division, if you want I can also attach NCO´s and Privates to that list.
I have a lot of SS-Hascha´s which most prob. served as Zugfhr´s or Spiess´s.

I will for others who is interessted do the same for LSSAH, Das Reich and Totenkopf as well

Best reg.

Georg
