5. SS-Panzer-Division 'Wiking'
Hello Jan-Hendrik,
I've Eugen Wöhrle written down as KIA on 11-8-1944, that's the info I did find.
But it could be wrong, wouldn't be the first time.
Don't have more info on the guy.
Georg,
Thanks for all the info, it's valuable for sure. And let's see if someone can help us with Rau.
And thanks for the info on Schiller, that was what I wanted to know.
Thanks also for the info on the other Rau, will look it up.
And whatever you have is most welcome.
Sometimes those DF-issues can contain alot of good info.
I only collect all what I can find about officers, about NCO's I almost collect nothing. But you can send them along,
no privates please, don't collect them.
Officers from LSSAH, Das Reich and Totenkopf are also welcome.
Greetings,
Mike

Hello Jan-Hendrik,
No thanks, you're welcome.
Indeed it could be the same but if the DoD of E. Wöhrle is correct then it's not possible of course.
Because your Wöhrle did fight with 'Westfalen' in 1945 and then my Wöhrle was already dead.
Hope somebody can tell us a bit more about this fellow and tell us if the DoD is correct.
That way you'll know as well if he matches yours or not.
Take care,
Mike

Hello Jan-Hendrik,
As you could see in the post from Hannes about those SS-Führer Peter J. Hertel also wrote down that
Wöhrle was killed in action on 11-8-1944, so we must assume this is correct, the more because it comes
from J. Moore's Führerliste.
And I did find yet another Wiking-officer.
Don't think he was mentioned already in this post.
Karl Picus.
Born on 20-11-1916 in Wanne(Ruhrgebiet).
Member SS(nr. ???).
SS-Obersturmführer d.R.
At the beginning of 1945 he served with SS-Panzer-Regiment 5 ‘Wiking’ from 5. SS-Panzer-Division ‘Wiking’
within IV. SS-Panzer-Korps.
On 17-4-1945 he received the Knights Cross.
At that time he was fighting at the Southerneastern front.
He also received the 1939 EK II and the 1939 EK I.
Died on 4-7-1997 in Kiel.
Hope somebody can tell us his SS-number???
Greetings,
Mike

Don't think the following has been mentioned already in this post.
It's most about officers from 'Wiking' here but maybe this info is interesting for somebody.
Lutz Bormann.
Born on 16-5-1924 in Berlin.
He followed the Reichsschule der NSDAP.
Then he joined the Waffen-SS.
From 4-8-1942 till 11-1942 he was part of 3. Kompanie with SS-Ersatz-Bataillon 'Deutschland' in Prague.
From 11-1942 till 4-1944 he was part of 5. Kompanie from II. Bataillon with SS-Panzergrenadier-Regiment
'Germania' from 5. SS-Panzer-Division 'Wiking', this as Kradmelder.
Till 4-1944 he fought with 'Wiking' at the Eastern front.
From 4-1944 till 12-1944 he attended classes at SS-Junkerschule in Prague.
Then he got promoted to SS-Untersturmführer.
From 2-45 till 5-45 he served with SS-Jagdverband 'Südwest'.
From 10-5-1948 he was locked up in a POW-camp and he tried many times to escape.
On 22-12-1948 he was set free from the POW-camp.

Maybe somebody can tell me what rank he had when he served with 'Wiking'????
And maybe somebody can tell me when he was promoted to SS-Ustuf???
Greetings,
Mike

SS-Sturmbannführer Konrad Leimer.
In 10-42 he served with SS-Panzergrenadier-Division 'Wiking'.
SS-Obersturmbannführer Willy Fortenbacher.
In 9-42 he was commander from II. Bataillon with SS-Infanterie-Regiment 'Nordland'
from SS-Division(mot.)'Wiking'.
Don't think I mentioned both officers before as being 'Wiking'-officers at a certain time.

Jan-Hendrik,
I think I found your man, Wöhrle's correct name is :
Wörrle, Helmut SS-Ostuf.
Born : 22.3.1920 in Ummendorf/Württemberg.
SS-Nr. 421 167
He was in SS-Pz.-Aufkl.-Ausb.-Abt. 2 in January 1945, which I believe became
part of SS-Panzer-Brigade "Westfalen".
Of course, this is all from John Moore's Führer's List.
Regards,
Pete

One more detail on Karl Picus, he was a strange case, as his officer training came during the 1. Lehrgang für Germanisches Offiziere at Bad Tölz during 1943. The Courses for Germanic Officers were set up to provide a shortened training period (about half the time of a Kriegsjunker Lehrgang) for men who already had leadership experience in a foreign army, but needed to be brought up to speed on German practices (whereas a KJL was for men who lacked previous command experience, and needed to be taught leadership principles in addition).
Picus was born in the Ruhr. Why would he have been part of this course? I wonder if he perhaps had dual citizenship, and had previous experience with the Dutch or Belgian Army. Most of his classmates at the 1. LfGO were Dutch, Flemings, and Estonians.
