Einsatzgruppe z.b.V. 08.39 - 09.39

Hi,

I searched some info about Udo von Woyrsch and got them. Thanks to this forum.
Now I have some questions:
On 3rd Sept. 1939 von Woyrsch became leader of the Einsatzgruppe z.b.V. (FS Himmler 02.09. 19.30 uhr)
With FS from 04.09.1939 from the Cheif of Sipo Leader of the Einsatzgruppe z.b.V. was Dr. Dr. Rasch
At http://www.axishistory.com/index.php?id=3696 there is Rasch the Leader but my books are telling Woyrsch (see the name Einsatzgruppe z.b.V. von Woyrsch")
Is axishistory wrong?

Thanks a lot

Robert

Balsi -- I think the Action Group was referred to by the name of its first commander, even when Dr. Dr. Rasch commanded it. From my notes:

September 1939
Reichsfuehrer-SS Heinrich Himmler sent a "Special Duty" Einsatzgruppe (Action Group) under Udo von Woyrsch to liquidate Polish intellectuals in the area of Katowice, Poland, and to deport the Jews of Danzig, West Prussia, Poznan, and Upper Silesia into the interior of Poland, (Hoehne 342)

September 20 1939
The head of operations of the German 14th Army in Poland, commanded by Generaloberst (later Generalfeldmarschall) Wilhelm List, reported that his troops were becoming restive "because of the largely illegal measures taken in the Army area by Einsatzgruppe Woyrsch's mass shootings of Polish Jews, aristocrats, intellectuals and priests. The troops are especially incensed that, instead of fighting at the front, young men should be demonstrating their courage against defenseless civilians." Generaloberst (later Generalfeldmarschall) Gerd von Rundstedt, the head of the German military government in Poland, then told Reichsfuehrer-SS Heinrich Himmler that von Woyrsch's Einsatzgruppe would no longer be tolerated in the Operations Zone. (Hoehne 343)

Thanks David for your reply.. here are my notes: http://www.balsi.de/3Reich/Verfolgung/E ... zbV-EG.htm unfortunately in german..sorry
taken from "Hitlers Einatzgruppen" written by Helmut Krausnick.. in the same book there is a note that part of the EinsatzGRUPPE z.b.V. was the "EinsatzKOMMANDO z.b.V. Rasch".

Cool site, Balsi. Congratulations! (My German is poor; it will take me a little while to work through the notes. I'm still at the "find the verb, then circle it" stage of reading.)

Did you have some infos about the EG 4 in Poland under the command ofSS-Sturmbannführer Bischoff? Parts of his EG (30 men und Kriminalkomissar Schoene) came with the Wehrmacht fighting troops (50. ID) to Bromberg 1939.

Balsi -- I've seen next to nothing in English translation about the activities of the Ensatzgruppen during the Polish campaign, other than the complaints of German generals. No doubt there's material out there (probably on US NARA or USHMM microfilm reels), but I haven't seen it.

Hallo Balsi,

Rasch was "Führer des Einsatzkommandos z.b.V." (350 men) and "Führer des Gruppenstabes der Einsatzgruppe z.b.V. der Sicherheitspolizei und des SD" under Udo von Woyrsch.

See also the pm.

Sorry, about that folks.

In my haste to get the information above posted I inadvertently left out Posen.
