Wowzers

Hi there;
Tony, I have been waiting about 3 years to see some photos like that. Fantastic, is about all I can say. You mention they are big scans. If possible could you PM or email me about this, because I would love to have a file copy of these. As I said, I have been researching this subject for over 4 years now, my interest started becasue I was researching the HJ and the high award winners that I could trace who had been in the HJ. I guess they were hit by all the glorified SS propaganda and thought that was their future. Kühbandner interested me particularly because of the fact that 100 days anti partisan fighting is hard to imagine survuving, and I wonder how he reconciled some of the things he must have seen.
Kind regards
Matt Gibbs

Dear Friends,

Have you got any info about the pictures?
Where did they come from?
How did they find them?

Amazing pics anyway!
Cheers
Tom

Here is another picture, but of not so good quality.
His awards: Black wound badge 14 October 41, EK II on 20 May 43, EK I on 17 March 44, Anti-Partisan War badge in Gold on 15 February 45.
Unknown dates: IAB in Bronze and the Golden HJ honour badge.

Joined HJ in 1931, volunteered to SS on 15 September 39, attached to 4/E SS "Deutschland", saw service in Hooland and France May-July 40, SS Junkerschule Bad Tölz May-Sept 41, in November 41 transferred to "Das Reich". Wounded and sent to hospital in Germany. Sent to Italy for anti-partisan operations, transferred to KZ Dachau in August 44, back to Italy in November 44.
The rest is mentioned in posts above.

Hi Björn!

Nice piece of information on Kühbandner, especially the part with KZ Dachau - do you have any more info on his postion there?
The officer in the picture is, however, Ostuf. Prasch - another SS-Karstjäger and a holder of the Bandenkampfabzeichen in Gold. Here's more info on him - http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic.php?t=30812

There're a lot of pictures of both Kühbandner and Prasch in the new book Corbatti/Nava: Karstjäger! Guerriglia e controguerriglia nell'OZAK 1943-45.

Best Regards
Marko

Sorry, Harmel was never commander of this unit! But the "Kampfgruppe Harmel" included some parts of the SS-Karstwehr-Brigade.

Photo of Prasch

Post by Matt Gibbs » 29 Nov 2005 17:47

This photo is published in a book I have about awards by a UK author and was quoted as being Kühbandner, we now know this to be an error. As mentioned see the link to another post.
I am very interested in 2 facts I hear no more evidence about. First the pics of him wearing the DKG and there is no apparent records of this and second his assignment to KZ Dachau when the forming of Karstjager was taking place?
Anyone know more?
Regards
M Gibbs

Here is Kühbandner wearing Deutsches Kreuz and Bandenkampfabzeichen in Gold. Looks happy in the last phase of the war, though...

I think that the two photos posted of Kühbandnder on this page are not the same person, especially looking real close at the one wearing the MP-43 cap with a smaller face and nose compared to the one wearing the old style officers cap.

Best,

James

It's already answered. The one with Bergmütze is Helmuth Prasch...
