SS-Ostubaf. Günther Karl Pütz, K.d.S Rowne and Lublin
Re: SS-Ostubaf. Günther Karl Pütz, K.d.S Rowne and Lublin
Probably the main reason why EK 5 did not carry out the Rowno Aktion was the lack of personnel. EK 5 was based at Kiew and only had "Trupps" at Rowno, Shitomir and Winniza. So sharing its personnel between HQ in Kiew and three other cities may have been less than 30 men in each place. Therefore, BdO Ölhafen was placed in charge of the Aktion by the HSSPF z.b.V. K (Korsemann). See Ereignismeldungen EM 129 (5 Nov 1941) and EM 135 (19 Nov 1941) plus others in this period.
Ling was not EK 5 Chef and wasn't posted to Einsatzgruppe C until April 1942 (his SS Officer file); the Chef EK 5 at the time was August Meier. EK 5 was dissolved in January 1942.

EM 143 says "Aussenkommando Rovno of Einsatzkommando 5 participated substantially in carrying out this Aktion." Who was in that Aussenkommando?
Re: SS-Ostubaf. Günther Karl Pütz, K.d.S Rowne and Lublin
Now we are getting down to the "shooter" level plus probably one officer. In JuNSV (cases 1 to 615) I do not see any West German trial for this Aktion nor do I see any mention of Police Battalion members being charged; there is no mention of Rivne/Rowne/Rowno as a "Tatort".
The East Germans also did not prosecute such a case.
Where to go next? Bundesarchiv/Zwischenarchiv Ludwigsburg (the Zentralstelle archives). Just because there was not a prosecution does not mean there wasn't an investigation.

Re: SS-Ostubaf. Günther Karl Pütz, K.d.S Rowne and Lublin
He did not commit suicide in 1945, but he changed identity with his brother. That is what my father (his son) and my great-uncle (his brother) told us.
Re: SS-Ostubaf. Günther Karl Pütz, K.d.S Rowne and Lublin
The West German police came up with the suicide details as long ago as the early 1960s; the information possibly came from the the St Märgen internment camp files (presumably under French control).
So the new information posted above raises three questions:
1. Who was the suicide if not Pütz?
2. What did K G Pütz do when living under the name of his brother?
3. If K G Pütz did not commit suicide in 1945 when did he actually die?
I suppose a fourth question could be why does the poster not know his "false name" uncle.

Just small correction:
I believe that his full name was Karl Josef Hermann Pütz not Karl Günther Pütz.
Here is a postwar document based probably on his personel file:

1. Who was the suicide if not Pütz?
The guy he was escaping with, but I don't know the name.
2. What did K G Pütz do when living under the name of his brother?
I know that he visited his family several times at Gotha and my father had to call him "uncle"
3. If K G Pütz did not commit suicide in 1945 when did he actually die?
Still in the 40ies, my father was told by lung infection but I doubt that this is true.

In my opinion I think this is really bad. The reason is that he gave his life to his country and there for should he be able to have a final resting place. In my opinion that goes also for those who got executed after the war. Because after the sentence they have paid the debt to the society and should have a final resting place. To my knowledge no one have been condemned to a punishment after death.Minotauros wrote: ↑30 Aug 2019, 12:21Hello,

Best regards,
So when Germany removed the cemetary for the those executed in Halmen 1945 and the treatment of the graves at Landsberg is my opinion a real bad behavior. Many of those executed had families.
Best regards
Georg
