Let's build 12. SS-PzDiv.?
Could we do a "Let's built" thread on the 12th SS-Panzerdivision "Hitlerjugend"? Would be very interesting.
Hey Panzerass,
I agree, would be very interesting indeed. But I guess that goes for in fact every Division, they're all unique in their own way and they all have their charme.
For the moment I already will post something about SS-Panzer-Regiment 12.

SS-Obersturmbannführer Max Wünsche(commander 7-44).
SS-Hauptsturmführer Wilhelm Sammann(TFK 7-44).

1. Kompanie :
SS-Hauptsturmführer Berlin(commander 7-44).
2. Kompanie :

SS-Standartenoberjunker, daarna SS-Untersturmführer Ulrich Ahrens.
3. Kompanie :

4. Kompanie :
II. Abteilung :

12th SS
I don't know if this is an appropiate responce, but how about Divisional Commander Fritz Witt. Until he was killed on June 14, 1944. Also Hubert Meyer Chief of Staff for the entire duration of the Division and author of an excellent account of the 12th SS.

The III.(gep.)/SS-PGR 26 had some tough times among its commanders. Bremer started out as the commander, but then a young Ustuf. was caught in a compromising sexual act, and committed suicide. His father was a Gauleiter, and was furious over the situation, and Bremer ended up trading places with Olboeter, who had been the first commander of SS-PAA 12 (Bremer and Olboeter had both been successful company commanders in SS-PAA 1 under Panzermeyer).
Olboeter ended up dying in surgery after his command vehicle drove over a mine on a road in the Ardennes, during the retreat back to Germany in September 1944. The mine had been placed by the Belgian resistance, and the blast basically tore his legs off. His successor Urabl was riding in the command Panther of Arnold Jürgensen (commander of I./SS-PR 12) when it was knocked out near Dom. Butgenbach on December 22, 1944. The tank caught fire, and Jürgensen died of his burns, while Urabl was badly injured.
Certainly, many units went through numerous commanders, and saw many of them KIA, but it was a bit unusual that these men were lost to the unit through activities that were different than the typical "being at the forefront of the battalion during the heaviest combat."

12th SS
Panzerass,
First off nice user name. I am a little curious how you came up with it though?
Secondly as far as the 12th SS it just seemed that two of the Divsion commanders needed mentioning. Hubert Meyer the Chief of Staff of the Division for the units duration. Fritz Witt who had an established military career until his death. Of course Kurt Meyer and his exploits.
It seems to me that you can not build a division with out commanders so which one would you choose? Or would you use all three? Forgive me I'm a little new at this.

This of course is an un-official "Let's build" by our comrade Panzerass, nevertheless it still deserves a fair deal of interest...In an effort to improve and expand the unit histories on the site, we will be launching a new series of "Let's Build" threads.
The object is to pool our collective knowledge and reconstruct these units. No contribution is too small, no fact too obscure, equipment, armament, manpower strength, high award holders, biographical information, photographs, reference material or combat reports, everything is welcome, just remember to mention the source of your information.
best,
Miha / Nibelung
