Hi, I would like to know who was Bürgermeister of Göttingen in 1941. Perhaps a SS-SD member?
Best regards

Re: Bürgermeister of Göttingen in 1941
I agree, an outstanding portrait.
Isn't it odd that being an SS-Standartenführer since 01.03.34 he was never promoted higher? Is there any known reason?
Best regards,
VJK

Re: Bürgermeister of Göttingen in 1941
he left active service service in SS on 1934.
Göttingen was a middle size town without Staatliche Polizeiverwaltung just a Stadtpolizeiverwaltung.
he was then Bürgermeister of the Gemeinde Göttingen, later Oberbürgermeister when the town reach the statut of Stadt due to the rising of population (51.214 hbts on 1942) with adding small gemeinde around.
the rank in SS given for honorary leaders was in regard civil position: Oberbürgermeister of a middle size town.
So SS-Standartenführer is correct.
