Excellent, Dylan, excellent!! That's very helpful to those trying to decide whether or not to purchase this evidently very expensive book. I noticed that there is a total absence of Polizei-Regimenter in the table of contents, and this seems strange. Perhaps it is because Curilla ends his coverage with 1942 before the Res.Pol.Btle. were incorporated into the new Regimenter?

Thank you Dylan very much for taking the time to do that. I noticed Amazon.de has used copies for 54,70 while a new volume is 68,00 if anyone else is interested. My guess is that it only goes to 1942 because a second volume is planned.

Dylan -

SUPER! Once again, we are deeply in your debt. It is now clear beyond doubt that anyone interested in the Ordnungspolizei and its role in the Holocaust and anti-partisan warfare will need both of these books.

Thanks again for your valuable contribution.

Hi T:

Battalion's home garrison was in München, in 1940 it was stationed in Czenstochau, then in April of the following year again in München. Afterwards occupational duties in Untersteirmark, HQ first in Maribor (Marburg), then Krško (Gurkfeld), it was heavily involved in the mass-deportations of Slovenians from Untersteirmark and in anti-partisan operations. In summer 1941 for a short time transferred to Oberkrain to reinforce the German units in anti-partisan operations. In July 1942 re-designated into I./Pol.Rgt.19. The commander of the battalion was Major d. Schupo Richard Maiwald.

A little problem only, about Polizei-Bataillon 72.

Effectively it arrived in Untersteiermark on April 1941.
Beginning from September 1941 it was involved with expulsions of so-called II Welle, from Lager Brestanica/Reichenburg to Slavonska Pozega.

My question is: from April till August 1941, was this bataillon involved also in the expulsions of the I Welle (From Lager Maribor to Arandjelovac etc)??

Hi,
cant help you Carnaro, Im afraid!
Standing to my sources II./SS-Pol.Rgt. 19 (Major d.SchuPo Hertlein)was on 09/09/43 in Lubijana and on 13/09/43 in Pola for the "Fall Achse" (Invasion of North Italy).
Stabkp. in Smartno/Litija, Provinz Laibach (21/09/43).
An 20/10/43 they had quite a big part of action during the anti partisan operatione "Unternehmen Wolkenbruch" in Zalog (Lubijana).
Again on 10/12/43 they help the garrison of Kočevje/Gottschee, an ancient Volksdeutsche enclave in Slovenia from XIV century, surrounded by partisan forces.
Around 20/12/44 take part to the antiguerrilla operation "Rudolfswerth" in Novo Mesto.

Cheers

Hi,

This is what I have:

December 9 to 10, 1943: The 2nd company of the battalion along with SS Police Regiment 14 was in Kočevje when attacked at night by 3 or 4 brigades of partisans. They were saved when reinforcements arrived the next day.
February 6, 1944: The battalion took part in an operation in the vicinity of Kamnik.
[June 1944: In Grenoble, and then in Paris in June 1944. They were transferred to Grenoble in France to reinforce security operations against French partisans.
September 1944: In Langres. 2
December 1944: Released from its attachment to the 16 Volksgrenadier Division, the regiment began returning to Slovenia during the second half of December.
March 20, 1945: The entire regiment was now using Celje as its permanent garrison, although the battalions and companies were deployed in the field on operations.
April 25, 1945: The battalion is operating along both sides of the Celje to Maribor road which was soon to be the main route of withdrawal north toward Austria for the hundreds of thousands of German and Croatian troops in Croatia.

and...

Major Richard Maiwald (? to 1943), Major W. Fischer (December 1943 to ?). Major Maiwald was a member of NSDAP (Number 4 262 696), and the SS (Number 367 701). His decorations were: Iron Cross 2nd class (1914), The Iron Cross 1st Class (1939) and spange to his Iron Cross 2nd Class (1914). He later became the commander of the 2nd version of SS Police Regiment 6 in 1944.

Hi Max,

Yes, the battalion was likewise involved in the I. (7.6.-5.7.1941) and III.Welle (24.10.-17.11.1941), though as far as I can see the difference between the other two, is that in the 2nd (11.7.-27.9.1941) the battalion, that is its commander - Maiwald, was in fact made responsible for the arrests of deportees.

Marko

P.S.
There're several very nice pictures (and text too  ) of the battalion on this link Ordnungspolizei Photos... (page 2 & 3)
