Have tried to find just what this lid is. Have posted it on USMF, and went to several web helmet research sites, no luck yet.
NO stamped markings of any on lid...Notice a regular M-1 next to it as size comparison. The liner shown is to the piece. Looks WW2 era, some markings on reverse of neck (nap) strap, but cannot at this time read it(manufactures size,make/model it looks like)
On the bottom of the lids is this marking in factory printed block letters.### as you can see. HR-1955
Rear seam, sewn chin straps, swivel bale...
My first thought is Australian/
There are no bridge crowns, or ridges like on a Swiss. or European type lid.
Paid $25.00 for the helmet. Had me intriqued so I just had to get it.
Am posting many pics.

Re: Really strange Helmet of mine
i like the external rust - it reminds me of the planet mars !
the helmet is just worthless french post war junk {POS}
but the liner was worth the $25.00 --
sell the pot for $10.00 and dont buy any more french pots unless the chin straps are 'American made '

Re: Really strange Helmet of mine
Yep,France M-51 mid 50's.
SCruffy, you are right on with (POS)I.D.
I think the liner is US, but I am of opinion the leather head band is European, based on sewing.
Well, $25.00 spent will still turn a profit!!! I think this all of a sudden has turned into a US M-1 prototype conversion. Oh yeah, **just found out of the *woodwork* whatever that WAF crap means!!!
