Romanian infantry guns, 1941

Hello,

I'm looking for what type of gun was used by the Romanians to equip their infantry guns companies in June 1941.
Leo's website indicates that this was 47mm Schneider model 1936 (http://www.niehorster.org/031_rumania/4 ... -brig.html) but it appears to have been an effective antitank weapon. Romanian units lacked so much efficient antitank weapons at this time that I hardly believe that it equipped its infantry guns companies with what was probably the better antitank gun available (the other ones being the Bofors 37mm and the Böhler 47mm).

Don't you think that the more versatile Böhler 47mm guns were used as (very) light infantry guns, not Schneider 47mm?

Thank you for your help.
Regards,

According to Axworthy in "Third Axis, Forth Ally" the Romanians used the Bohler 47mm as an Infantry Gun while the Schneider was used as an ATG.

Hi everyone, from what I gather the infantry used the Schneider 4.7cm Mod. 1936 in which they had around 300 and the cavalry used the lighter Bofors 3.7cm Mod. 1936 in which they had 556.

The Romanians also had two other 47mm, the Breda 4.7cm Mod. 1939 (total 275) and the Bohler 4.7cm Mod. 1935 (total 545), which they also used as anti-tank guns.

I would guess that all these guns would be used for what ever job came up, either as a infantry gun or anti-tank gun, maybe as the war progressed these lighter guns would be handed over to lower levels of the regiment as they realized that they needed a larger weapon and that is where the 75mm Resita came in, but they never got enough in time.

The Japanese also downgraded their 37mm Type 94s from anti-tank guns to infantry guns as they were found to be ineffective, but they would still shoot them at amour, so I don’t know how to draw a line under this.
