Any Hungarian Rendorseg experts?

#1

Post by Poot » 20 Jun 2019, 17:18

Hello all,
I'm trying to learn if the wartime Rendörség were assigned military grade rifles, or if they were limited to handguns. I have not had any luck finding references or appropriate photographic references, but I don't read Hungarian, either. The possibility of using the police as additional defensive personnel would seem to be higher as the Soviets moved through Hungary and especially during the Battle of Budapest.

Thanks in advance for your time,
Pat

About those two photos below:
Military police was part of the army, not Royal Hungarian Police (Magyar Királyi Rendőrség).
The same goes for Royal Hungarian Gendarmerie (Magyar Királyi Csendőrség), it was a separate force.

Not counting white weapons carried by officers, Royal Hungarian Police was carrying handguns only.
Although at some point (possibly during the defense on the country in 1944) they were issued with rifles.

Outstanding, thank you both very much!

Those are excellent links. It appears from the photos that they were already (well before late 1944) armed with rifles in the early 1930s, and of a type (31M) that were used concurrently by the Army. Later photos show them with the 35M, too.

Thank you again!

Are you sure you are taking about Rendőrség not Csendőrség?

Sorry for not being more specific. Yes, Csendörség.

Best,
