where do these numbers come from, are they not too inflated, is there a known specimen of a weapon in the collection with such numbering?

yes, serial number, the highest documented smg is sn 33

Until 1940 BMW built a version of the l. gl. Einheits-Pkw using their 2 liter 6 cylinder "325" engine and was primarily, if not solely supplied to the Bulgarian Army. It used the same Ambi-Budd body as the more familiar Stoewer but was distinguishable by the small helper wheels located mid-chassis :
