Hello,

before the 1944 national uprising, did any units of the Slovak army or

police take part in security or anti partisan operations ?

Or did the Hlinka Guard deal with security ?

Ranjit.

As far as I know regular Army and Police units (Zandarstvo) from affected area were sent against partisans. There were not special anti partisan units. However regular army often avoided engagements.

Slovak army was responsible for a "partisan problem". However till summer 1944 there was no such a problem. In april 1944 german ambassador Ludin reported to Berlin, that there was not a single sabotage.

It all changed with soviet "parachutists". First group of partisans came on 25/26th July - commander Velicko. Soviets sent together 53 partisan groups. Well, as you can see there was only one month in between this and uprising.

It´s good to mention, that on the same day when german army started with disarming slovak eastern divisions, some slovak units were fighting partisans according their order.

Some separate border army units received tankette vz.33 against partisans. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tan%C4%8D%C3%ADk_vz._33
