Hi, does anyone knows the Hungarian generals behind Miklos Horthy and Walther von Brauchitsch? The picture was taken in September 1941.

(1 May 1940: Promoted to Tüzerségi tábornok)

The officer second right from Keresztes-Fischer (with the moustache) is János Vörös, who was a Major-General in September 1941. http://generals.dk/general/V%C3%B6r%C3% ... ngary.html

Vezérezredes vitéz János nemes Vörös (23 Mar 1891 - 23 Jul 1968)

Great! Thank you AJK. Is that Ferenc Szombathelyi with hand on the hip?

I don't think so. Szombathelyi was tall, which the officer in the photo is not.

He is Jány Gusztáv, commanding officier of the 2nd Hungarian Army.

Hi,

I don't think it is Gusztav Jany. Attached is a frozen shot of the General in the video, with a picture of Jany for comparison.

My December 8 posting contains a major error for which I sincerely apologize. The general with the moustache is not János Vörös, but is in fact Colonel-General Dezsö László.

Vezérezredes vitéz Dezsö László (Laucsek) (23 Jul 1893 - 8 Jun 1949)
1 Nov 1938 - 1 Feb 1941: Chief of Operations, General Staff
1 Feb 1941 - 1 Mar 1941: C.O. 5. Infantry Brigade
1 Mar 1941 - 1 Nov 1941: Chief of Operations, General Staff
(1 May 1941: Promoted to Tábornok)
1 Nov 1941 - 15 May 1943: Commandant, General Staff College
30 Jul 1942 - 12 Sep 1942: C.O. 7. Infantry Division
1943: G.O.C. Eastern Corps of Occupation
(1 May 1943: Promoted to Altábornagy)
15 May 1943 - May 1944: G.O.C. VIII. Army Corps
May 1944 - 16 Oct 1944: Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Army,
Deputy Chief of the General Staff
16 Oct 1944 - Apr 1945: C-in-C, 1. Army
(1 Nov 1944: Promoted to Vezérezredes)
Dec 1944: Acting C-in-C, (German) Army Group Heinrici
(1. Hungarian Army & 1. Panzer Army)

Regards,

AJK

These photographs are taken in the city of Kursk in the spring of 1942. The generals are visiting the Hungarian 2nd Army command and attending a German-Hungarian football game. Next to Generalleutnant z.V. Wolfgang von Ditfurth to his left is Gusztáv Jány (out of picture) the commander of the 2nd Hungarian Army.
Who is the Hungarian officer at left? Looks like it is the same officer with General Model in the previous picture.

I believe that the officer is the Military Attache to Germany, Lt. Field Marshal Sandor Homlok.

Altábornagy vitéz Sándor Homlok (3 May 1892 - 5 Apr 1963)
1 May 1935 - 1 Mar 1940: Chief of Troop Training (Section 5), General Staff
1 Mar 1940 - 1 May 1940: Attached to Military Intelligence (Section 2), General Staff
1 May 1940 - 1 Nov 1944: Military Attaché to Germany
1 May 1940 - 15 Nov 1941: Military Attaché to Sweden
1 Feb 1941 - 15 Nov 1941: Military Attaché to Finland, Latvia, Lithuania
1 Dec 1941 - 1 Dec 1943: Military Attaché to Switzerland
(1 Apr 1942: Promoted to Vezérőrnagy)
(1 Jan 1944: Promoted to Altábornagy)
1 Nov 1944: Interned in Germany
