Hi All.

My grandmother lived in Kostopil (near Rivme, Ukraine) and remembered that soon befire Kostopil was taken by the Red Army (Jan 1944) there was a Latvian unit in the area.

Does anyone kniw which Latvian Unit was in Kostopil/Rivne area in Nov 43 - Jan 44?

Thank you

Hi,

Kostopil was captured by the Red Army on 31 Jan 1944. At the time, the Polnisches Schutzmannschaftsbataillon 202 was serving in the area. The only Latvian units that operated in the Ukraine during the war were 6 Schutzmannschaft Battalions, I can't find any indication that they were stationed in the Rivne oblast, and all had been either disbanded or relocated out of the Ukraine by the beginning of 1944.

Best regards,

VJK
