Romania, did raise police units in Transnistria, which became almost a region of Romania, from the Ukrainian population. They were similar to the "local police" existing in Romania, and were led usually by a Pretor(high ranking civil servant which was the representative of the government for several localities). Also, a special Ukrainian police was founded, with members loyal to the Romanian state. They were used mainly as guards in ghettos and concentration camps, many of the being staunch antisemites.
