Hi,

are there any pictures of the HQ of Deutsche Heeresmission Rumänien in 1941?

Couldn't find in which building the Heeresmission was and so no picture of it -.-

also, I have read of a "deutsches Kasino der Heeresmission n der Villa des Herrn Lupescu (?)" (casino of the Heeresmission in the Lupescu-Villa) - also 1941

does anybody know which building this could be? Lupescu as in the father of the "Magda-Elena Lupescu"?

would be of great help to know which buldings these were and to have pictures of them

Thanks a lot,

Alexander

The DHM was located mainly in the Hotel Ambasador, on boulevard Take Ionescu (now boulevard General Gheorghe Magheru): http://wikimapia.org/111454/Hotel-Ambasador
Part of the staff was in the former buildings of the Romanian War College, boulevard Nicolae Bălcescu, less than a kilometer southwards this hotel.

On the January 19th, 1941, Chef der Transportabteilung der Heeresmission, Major Döring was killed.
Did it happen in the Hotel itself or on his way to the Hotel? Do we know?

According to document from December 1940, Wehrmacht-Standortkommandant Hauptmann Sauer office was at Sevastopol Strasse 6.

According to my research, Major Doering was going back from a restaurant where he took a coffee with a comrade, around midnight, in the night between January 18th and 19th, 1941. En route to the hotel Ambasador which was nearby, he was assaulted by a Turkish (or Greek) citizen, Dimitri Sarandos (or Dimitros Sarandopoulos), a boxer of either 26 (according to his Turkish passeport) or 35 (according to his Greek one), probably on behalf of the British Secret Service.

Thanks.
I noticed German press was quick to blame British Secret Service.
Perhaps just an unfortunate accident, one drink too many case, I doubt he drank coffee all evening...

Hello,

I just reported what was written in the German reports of the time. One of them specifically mentioned that the British community in Romania evoked the implication of the Secret Service.
The fact that Sarandos/Sarandopoulos had two passports including one from Greece (UK ally in its fight against Italy) let me think that it may have been correct. The reason could have been that Doering, at this time, was a very important part of the German layout in the Balkans: he was responsible for "Marita" force generation in Romania, prior to its deployment in Bulgaria which intervened as of March 2nd, 1941. Killing him may have been a desperate try to derail the process.
