Hungarian ezredes
Hungarian ezredes
I am wondering if there is any chance of identifying these two ezredes? No.3 comes with a name I cannot decipher
Re: Hungarian ezredes
The dedication is written in German to somebody named Rösel. The name "Rösel" could either be a German feminine first name or a German family name. He sends "kisses to everyone" and signs it Laci Lantay (that's what it looks like to me, anyway) where Laci is an informal nickname for Laszló. So if I'm right, the man's name is vitéz Lantay László ezredes. He may have achieved a higher rank prior to 1945 or he may have retired. The Order of Maurice & Lazarus Commander around his neck suggests he may have served in some capacity at the Hungarian Consulate in Rome, possibly a military attaché. It was very rare to see Hungarians decorated with Italian orders prior to 1941.
Re: Hungarian ezredes
Thank you very much for the information on vitéz Lantay László.
Re: Hungarian ezredes
Any chance you may have a part bio on vitéz Lantay László. I can't find him in any of my Schematimus/Rank lists
Re: Hungarian ezredes
Looking at the dedication again (since it is written in German) the signature line might read "Eure XXXXXX" (Your + his name) and not "Laci" which also makes sense because he's sending "kisses to everyone". The last four letters still look like "ntay" to me but they could also be "ntow".
Re: Hungarian ezredes
Many thanks for the update. I will try and access some of the on-line rank lists and see if I can narrow down the options.
Re: Hungarian ezredes
sorry double post.
