Hungarian 7th Assault Artillery Battalion

One minor source (Osprey's Germany's Eastern Front Allies 1941-45) asserts that in August (?) 1944, Hungarian 7th Assault Artillery Battalion destroyed 67 Soviet T-34 tanks at Arad in Transylvania.

I would like to know what type of anti-tank weapons this unit were equipped: Hungarian Zrinyi assault guns or German StuG IIIs.

I would also like to know who cammanded this unit during this period.

Any other information concerning this unit will be appreciated.

Thanks for your help.

Some of the Artillery Btn's were also allocated Turan tanks, aswell as Zrinyi or StuG Assault guns.

7th Assault Gun Bn formed on 1/10/43 with 2 Turan II. The Szabolcs plan of this date aimed for 21 Zrinyi I and 9 Zryni II per Bn.

30/10/43 2 Turan II allocated to 7th Assault Gun Bn

1/4/44 2 Turan II allocated to 7th Assault Gun Bn

With the German occupation Hungarian AFV production stopped with no ZrinyiI produced.

40 StuG III were purchased 7 to 9/44 and assigned to the 6th and 7th Assault Gun Bns.

Battle of Arad 7th Assault Gun Bn destroyed 67 T34

It had 30 StuG III (including some from the 1st Assault Gun Bn) at the start. 8 were destroyed, 10 badly damaged but recovered, 12 damaged repairable in a week.

At the end of the battle 7th Assault Gun Bn was renamed 25th Assault Gun Bn.

Thank you very much, daveh! :D

Do you have any information as to who was the commanding office of the 7th AG Battalion at the time of the battle?

And can you cite the source of the information?

I would also like to see a photo of StuG III, especially those in Hungarian service. :)

Best Regards!
