Using the Advanced Squad Leader Game Module Beyond Valor-Rising Sun- or Code of Bushido Counters

The action taking place July-August 1938 along the ridges bordering Manchuria and Soviet Union can be replayed using Advanced Squad Leader Game System via the Following Scenario Concept,
Scenario Title REMOTE CONTROL
Location::Changkufeng Peak Manchuria Date August 2, 1938
Scenario Info; Border Skirmishes between Japanese and Soviet Forces in the Remote Area near Lake Khansan Suddenly flared up into Full Scale Battle
Control of the Area would hinge toward which side could muster enough troops to hold the high ground.

Use Map Board # 2 Hex row A denotes North Edge for map board alignment
Victory Conditions the side that Controls all Cliff Hexes at game end wins
Balance Provisions: No scenario Balance Provisions at this time

TURN RECORD 1 2 3 4 5
Simultaneous Setup Roll die to determine who moves first dr 1-3 Japanese move first 4-6 Russian moves first

Scenario Orders of Battle
Elements of Imperial Japanese Army setup on /West of Hex numbering 6 or more ELR 2 SAN 3
Japanese First line Squads x 9 Crew Counters x 2 Leader 9-1 MMG Type 38 75mm Art Gun
Reinforcements Enter Turn 1 From West Board Edge Japanese First Line Squads x 3 Leader 9-0 Crew MMG

Elements of Soviet Rifle Corps setup on East of Hex Numbers 4 or Less ELR 2 SAN 5
Russian First line Squads x 13 Leader 9-0 Commissar MMG T 26 M33 Tank
Reinforcements Enter Turn 2 East Edge Russian First line Squads x 3 Leader 7-0 T 26 M33 Tank
Special Scenario Rules: 1. EC are moderate with no Wind At start
2. Both sides setup Concealed regardless LOS or Terrain
3.The At Start Defender may place 3 trench counters and 3 Wire counters
4. Both sides may stack no more than one squad/Tank per hex At Start
5. Russian Receives one module of 80mm OBA with Plentiful Ammo and OBO
Aftermath: Japanese Troops fighting an uphill battle made it to the top of Changdufeng Peak. Russian Toops pulled back , regrouped and brought forward Tanks and additional Troops while Russian Artillery Pounded the Japanese on the High Ground. After several weeks of repeated Russian Counterattacks and Artillery Fire, Air Strikes, the Japanese could no longer hold their positions from the mounting casualties that could not be replaced.

The Russian Player determines the Off Board Observers Hex for Line of Sight determination after the Spotting Round is Placed, all Line of Sight checks for the OBO are then taken from that Hex.
Scenario Comments: Instead of die roll to determine who moves first- Japanese move first to accurately depict Historical events

The scenario setup depicts the general situation that existed, The Japanese quickly stormed the heights , with the Russians taking reverse slope positions on the other side of the hill. The Japanese First line squads have capability to take step losses rather than break to sweep across the High Ground, to close with the Russian First line Squads, that once broken will be difficult to Rally with only one Russian Leader on Board on Turn 1.
In the ASL Game system a direct assault is a quick way to win or lose if the Russian Player scores Casualty/KIA results on the Infantry Fire Table.
The 5 Game Turns the Japanese MG initial placement should be carefully considered to place fire/fire lane on as much of the Russian Line as possible,
the Russian Player initial Squad placement loose Fire Groups to avoid any Broken Squads from Japanese Prep Fire,

As a fan of ASL, I'm interested in this, but I'm not sure this really counts as "reenactment." There's another board here that covers games.

Scenario Tactics:
How to use the 5 Turns to best effect:
The Tactics for the Japanese are to attack in Full Force, to gain a quick victory ,

The Scenario attempts to capture the action in a scaled down quick play , usually less than 30 minutes; additional features can be added , Board # 2 provides some interesting terrain that can make a big difference in the game

Replace the Japanese Type 38 ART *75 with the Year 41 *75 INF Gun: According to ASL Japanese Ordnance Notes: The Type 38 was NA vs Russians 1938
For the Scenario the *75 INF Gun has HE Capability Only, the Counter Indicates Special Ammo Capability of Heat and WP, the Special Ammo capability is not avail in the Scenario
