Best tunics to convert into waffenrock?

#1

Post by willie777 » 10 May 2007, 21:16

What is the best tunic to convert into a Waffenrock? I am a guy that likes things made the way I want them, and I am thinking of converting one. I am considering using a postwar uniform, removing the cuffs and collar, and replacing them with dark ones. pockets will be removedand buttons replaced.I might use the bottle green wool flannel from On The March and do it myself. I like to use original stich holes to hand sew in the new material. Should I just sew the material to cover the collar, or replace it completely?

I don't think there is a tunic that lends it's self to be converted to a waffenrock. Waffenrocks were converted for use by rear area troops and volksturmm.

Actually, I think I will keep the pockets (Ausgehrock). I am going to use this piping: http://www.reddickmilitaria.com/mm5/mer ... 20-270-300
Now, does anyone have a pattern for the scalloped back of a waffenrock?

So you are going to make a rock that never exhisted? Here is a link to an Artillery Waffenrock you will see what I mean by there is no tunic you can convert to look right. You can see it is constructed differently from regular tunics even post war EG and Bundy tunics

The waffenrock is for the Russian Liberation Army (Yes, they did wear them). So are the breeches. I am attempting either a very senior ROA NCO, or a General. I have the available resources for either or, and have a desire for both, but I am asking all of this in order to know which I will be able to make a better impression of.

übermensch is good also... :D

Well there isn't anything that can be converted into a waffenrock as has been explained earlier. Yes waffenrocks were converted for field use.

Sorry for any misunderstanding, guys. It is actually not a waffenrock. It is a piped feldbluse. I just forgot the term when I posted this. :(

No. I thought they did, but they only had a split skirt.

I don't think you can add pipeing to an already made tunic and have it look right. The pipeing is put in when the seams are sewn together IE. down the front flap and around the edge of the collar. Be further ahead just to buy one a;ready made that way that is if you want something decent and correct

I know this topic is around 8 years old, but I'll post here anyway.

Can someone provide me with a Reichswehr tunic pattern, or something similar (M32/34 or imperial tunic pattern etc.)

I just found me enough wool melton to make a full uniform and this is what I intend to do.

ALSO using either Rit or Dylon, what measurements (estimate) would I need to dye a light steingrau wool into a Feldgrau (Early war) colour? I figure green would be a good place to start but I can't find much in the way of instructions to get precise colours.
