Post by dardra » 24 Jul 2010, 07:16

Hey, does anyone know if there are any SAFE filters to use with the M38 gas mask? That are not old and have harmful chemicals in so i could actually breath in it? THANKS!

I got four FE42 filters in mint, unissued condition last year. They were still sealed (a metallic seal was included), in its cardboard box and painted in a nice dark olive shade not really far away from the original German gree. They had not FE42 engraved on it, but otherwise they look iddentical to German filters.

I guess there were made for a Scandinavian army. A ffew years ago I got a pair of German gasmask reused by some Scandinavian Home Defence force. I guess the filters are for those masks.

The text on the filter says:
On top:
HMAK -4240-12-305-2814 12/87 --- 261
In the botton, printed in a silver paper and closing the respiration hole: Traek proppen ud Afskru lag i anden ende.

Unfotunately I think they are not available here in Spain anymore.

http://www.gijoebcn.com

On
http://www.gijoebcn.com/buscador.aspx
type mascara and click on busqueda. It's the first item on the list. The owner speaks English.

Now I am not sure whether it is an FE41 or FE42 (I have not compared it to my originals).

oh sweet! thanks for link, what language is it on the site? How much does it say? And if i buy a M38 mask this should fit and work good with it?

Also. Where could i purchase a size 3 mask?

I found this http://www.ima-usa.com/product_info.php ... ts_id/1056 and sent them an email asking if they have size 3.

Also i heard gas mask canisters back then were slightly harmful to inhale, is that true?

Spanish

Just 4 Euros each filter

Yes

Btw the filters on sale are FE41 ones, not FE42 as I previously said. I have finally compared them to my originals

They are Danish. HMAK is the Danish army equipment section (translates roughly to 'Army Material Command')

The text say "Pull the plug and unscrew the lid at the other end".

There are also plenty of original filters available here in Denmark, with both Home guard and nazi stamps on them. They usually run for around 10-15€ depending on condition.

I'll say it as it hasn't been mentioned.

If I were you, I'd strongly think twice, hell ten times about inhaling from a vintage, or non-vintage used gas mask, let alone a filter. Residuals on some of these things can be downright dangerous, as you never know what they've been exposed to, worn in, tested in.

Same with the filters.

And why would you want to?

Bottom line, make sure you're safe in any account.
